Zamioculcas, often referred to as the dollar tree, can be found in nature in the tropical latitudes of Africa. This unpretentious plant is perfectly adapted to exist in the harsh conditions of arid climate. It is hardy, is not afraid of dry air, is patient about skipping watering and practically does not get sick.

However, in order to fully develop with a decorative appearance, the dollar tree needs territory. For this purpose, zamioculcas must be transplanted regularly.

How often to transplant zamioculcas

Young specimens of zamiokulkas are transplanted every year. Their root system develops quite quickly and the plant very soon becomes cramped in a small pot.

It is customary to transplant adult specimens every 3-4 years, when the roots are shown from the drainage holes.

If the plant is old and large, it is sufficient to replace the topsoil with freshly prepared substrate once a year.

The best time for the transplant procedure is spring. Choose a new pot a few centimeters wider than the previous one, prepare drainage material and fresh soil from equal parts of sand, turf, leaf and peat soil. If the ingredients you need are not on hand, the substrate can be purchased at the store.

Since the plant sap is poisonous, all manipulations must be performed with sealed gloves and goggles.

The tubers of the dollar tree are quite fragile, so the transplanting process is a transshipment along with an earthen ball. Take out the plant and take a good look at the roots. Rotten and dry parts must be removed with a sharp knife with treated alcohol. If the bush is overgrown, separate the tubers and prepare different containers for them.

Place a layer of drainage on the bottom of the new pot, then a layer of new soil and carefully place the plant there. Holding the bush with your hand, fill in the gaps between the root system and the walls. Try to keep the plant in the middle of the container. Compact the soil with light pressure. It is not necessary to deeply deepen the tubers - they should be about 1 cm. protrude above the soil surface.
