In this article, I want to continue my selection of devices that simplify summer cottage life. Based on my experience, I choose only the most practical examples that would be useful to myself.
1. Watering system timer
With this timer, you can make a real drip irrigation system from an old leaky hose. The device runs on two batteries and allows you to adjust the water supply. In the settings, you can set the start and end time of irrigation, as well as the pressure. The device will be a real boon for gardeners who visit their summer cottage only on weekends. It is not afraid of heat and heavy rains. The battery lasts for several months.
On store shelves you can find a variety of modifications and types of devices. They differ mainly in reliability and the presence of a screen. When buying, you should pay attention to the types of mounts. Not all of them fit the old Soviet spouts.
2. Plant garters
These small plastic mounts can save you a lot of time. With their help, you can fix the plant on a taut twine with one movement of your hand. Unlike many analogues, these clips are easy to remove and reuse. The holders are made of soft plastic that does not damage plant tissues even at the moment of friction. The bindings tightly squeeze the twine, so do not be afraid that they will start to ride and spin.
The peculiarity of such mounts is that the plant does not have tight contact with the support. This allows the culture to develop without hindrance, without feeling any resistance during growth.
3. Tomato watering tray
A tomato watering tray is installed around the young plant in the first weeks after planting in open ground. It is a "U" -shaped tray with four tubes extending into the ground, each of which has a lot of holes. Watering the plant, moisture immediately gets to the roots and is evenly distributed within the horse system. At the same time, there is no reason to fear erosion of the upper soil layers.
In addition, the tomato irrigation tray allows you to forget about weeds in the trunk circle. Even the most aggressive weeds cannot break through the plastic protection. Being a kind of analogue of mulch, the device prevents moisture evaporation. Thanks to the tubes with drainage holes, normal air exchange is maintained in the soil.
4. Shovel for potatoes
To make digging up potatoes easier, you can purchase a special shovel at the store. Outwardly, it is somewhat reminiscent of a pitchfork with a cutting surface. This design allows you to separate the potatoes from the ground right during the digging process. The metal mesh has a small depression, which creates a kind of fruit basket.
Since the sticks have no sharp edges and are close enough to each other, they do not damage the potatoes during digging. And this means that the fruits can be safely sent for long-term storage in a cellar or pantry.
This shovel has another indisputable advantage over its classic counterpart. Earth does not adhere to the work surface at all. A clean tool weighs less, which means it is much easier to work with.
5. Furrowing tool
Another useful and rather rare tool is the furrow shovel. It allows you to sprinkle the planting material with earth without bending. The process becomes not only much more convenient, but also faster. Plates located at an obtuse angle grip the soil along the edges of the furrow, and a triangle pressed into the middle sprinkles and levels the groove.
The light weight of the instrument is a nice addition. The thing is that the device is not designed for heavy loads, so the nozzle is made of thin and light metal.
