In my previous articles I have already said that I have a rather low area and plantings often suffer from excessive moisture. To solve the problem, I try to raise the beds in any way possible. The main assistant in this matter is compost. It not only helps crops get all the necessary substances, but also significantly raises the soil level.
In order to have as much compost as possible, I try to use almost all plant and food waste for cooking. Raw materials that decompose for more than a year are sent to the pit for a long time, and weeds and grass are used to make quick compost in bags. This approach allows you to always have fertile land at hand.
I make quick compost in bags out of the ground, which I rest in the spring for seedlings and transplants. They are strong enough and do not let light through. Such packages can be used multiple times. For sealing, I do not use tape, but heavy bricks. So it is more convenient to report raw materials and there is no risk that the adhesive tape will come off after rain.
In order for the raw materials in bags to rot in 2.5-3 months, I always added ammonium nitrate or purchased preparations to accelerate the composting process. This worked great, but they weren't always on hand and cost money. So a few years ago I decided to experiment and make compost from natural ingredients. Instead of purchased preparations, I added one liter can of wood ash and two liter cans of non-rotted compost to the contents. Before sealing, sprinkled the contents with a small amount of water. All components were stacked in layers mixed with waste. The result was good. The compost matured in terms comparable to those that were when using purchased preparations.
A small photo report. I laid the first batch at the end of May and by the middle of August I used the ready-made fertilizer. The second batch was laid in the twenties of August and by mid-September the contents of the bags looked like this. The raw material caked and began to rot.
I definitely leave this batch for the winter in order to use it for planting in the spring. Then the process will be repeated again.
I recently got groups In contact with and Classmates, there I post announcements of new materials every day.
