To restore the soil after garden crops, you can use complex fertilizers, or you can sow siderates. The latter have a number of advantages, so I prefer to use them. Indeed, in addition to saturating the earth with microelements, they improve its structure and are much cheaper. However, the beneficial properties of green manure do not end there. In this post, I want to talk about how to get the double benefit of using green fertilizers.
Most of the beds on my site have high sides made of tightly knit planks. Boxes help to solve the problem of moisture stagnation, but they do not save at all from weeds. Weeds sprout from all cracks, practically without encountering any obstacle. It is extremely difficult to get rid of them, since developed root systems go deep under the boards. However, I managed to solve this problem. Now I'll tell you what my trick is.
How did I manage to solve the problem
Many green manure plants have a powerful root system that loosens the soil. This is the most important property of green fertilizers. The idea is to make the most of it. To do this, sow siderates should be denser to the edges of the beds. It is necessary to start from the perimeter in order to fill it abundantly and evenly. The central part is seeded at normal density.
This is done so that a powerful root system suppresses weeds, which are abundant along the edges of the garden. Rye is perfect for these purposes. This aggressive siderat crowds out even the toughest rivals.
With the usual sowing of siderates, few grains get to the edges of the beds, which gives the perennial weeds a competitive advantage and they continue to climb during the following season. If the edges are purposefully filled, there will be no chance for weeds. All cracks and spaces under the boards will be filled with the powerful root system of the green manure.
This method is especially effective for side beds, but you can use it anywhere. This little trick allows you to get a double benefit from siderates.
I recently got groups In contact with and Classmates, there I post announcements of new materials every day.
