Autumn will come very soon, and with it it is time to plant winter garlic. Despite the unpretentiousness of the culture, this representative of the onion genus still requires adherence to agricultural technology, which has a number of nuances.
In this article, I want to talk about unpopular mistakes that even experienced gardeners make. I will not write about compliance with crop rotation and timely planting. I am sure that all my readers know such things.
Garlic should be planted in the garden no earlier than two weeks after digging or deep loosening. It is necessary to wait for time so that the earth has time to cackle and compact. If you plant the cloves immediately after digging, they will go too deep into the ground. It is especially important to wait for the seal before deep planting 10-15 cm. Otherwise, the yield will be greatly reduced.
For the same reason, you should not plant winter garlic in high beds with insulation in the form of branches and plant waste. Autumn rains erode the topsoil, turning it into a viscous mass. Through such a swamp, the cloves can reach the insulation, which will lead to loss of yield.
When planting garlic to a depth of more than 10 cm, do not make onions by pressing. It is best to scoop up some of the soil with a narrow spade or pipe trim. Too dense soil inhibits root formation. For the same purpose, do not press the cloves into the soil. The seed should be carefully placed in the prepared hole.
Do not create indentations with markers. The devices save time and effort, but do not make it possible to make holes of different sizes. In the case of winter garlic, this is a serious drawback. Seed sizes differing in size require individual planting depths.
