Good afternoon, my reader. For a good harvest, you need water. Watering is especially important in spring and early summer when there is active growth. But not all summer cottages can boast of having a water supply system. What to do in this case?

There are several ways to solve this problem, each with their own pros and cons.
Rainwater harvesting
Rainwater comes for free, and for plants it is more useful than tap water. To use it, you need the following:
- Drains.
- Water collection and storage tanks.
In this case, it is necessary to equip the roofs of each of the structures in the country with drain pipes - the house itself, sheds, kitchens, etc. In this case, under each drain there should be a barrel for collecting water.
As far as the number of barrels is concerned, the principle “There is never too much” applies here. At the same time, the containers must be at least 200 liters in volume - then they do not overflow so quickly. An overflow system can also be provided so that water from the first filled barrel flows by gravity through the hose to the next. To do this, a hole is made at the upper edge of the tank, into which a hose is inserted on the branch pipe, through which excess water begins to drain into the second barrel located below.
If possible, place the barrels on stands - then you can use the hoses for gravity irrigation so as not to carry buckets and watering cans.
An inflatable pool can also be used as a reservoir - more water gets into it, and it's easier to bring it to the country house. But it takes up a lot of space and is inconvenient in a small area. But you can swim in it.
In addition to rainwater, you can also collect spring thawed water. To do this, you can make tanks in the ground - or you can fill empty barrels with snow, carefully tamping it. It is only necessary to take into account that when the snow melts, it decreases in volume, and even a container full of compacted snow will be filled with water by a maximum of half.
Buying water
Sometimes the best option is to pay for water delivery. Industrial water for irrigation is transported using cisterns, and it is not that expensive.
However, to use this method, containers must be prepared in advance. And here, too, there are never too many barrels. Moreover, it is better to dig a pool in advance on the site and insulate its walls with polyethylene or cement - then any amount of water for irrigation can be stored in it.
Different storage methods have their merits:
- A pond or pool will be cheaper than installing a large water tank: after all, 1 cubic meter. m of water weighs 1 ton.
- But if the container is raised on a foundation or supports to a height of 2.5-3 m, there will be a good pressure for a shower or watering from a hose without a pump.
Joint well or well
Drilling a well yourself or digging a well alone is not cheap, especially if it is water. But you can get together with your neighbors in the country and agree on the construction of one common water intake.
This is the optimal solution, but be prepared for difficulties:
- The engine burned out - pack up again and throw off money for repair or replacement.
- We will have to agree on the mode of use so that it does not turn out that someone floods the site like a rice field, and the rest sit without water.
- The neighbor sold the cottage, and the new owner does not want to share in the common expenses.
In short, there are no ideal solutions to the water problem. Nevertheless, the lack of running water is not fatal, and even without it, you can provide your garden with watering. It would only be the desire of the summer resident.
