Recently started doing homemade work in his garage, where the cutting edge is a carbide, high-speed blade from a power saw. She saws large, heavy blanks in large industries. My task was to drill a slightly offset hole from the center in a heavy-duty workpiece.

Without thinking foolishly, he began to drill it with an ordinary drill, spoiled two products. As it turned out, this action is like drilling a tree trunk with a wooden pencil. There will be no hole. Both the drills and the saw blade are made of special tool steel, mainly of the brand R6M5. To process one thing, the other turned out to be stupid.

On that day, a neighbor in the garage was just at his place, and I knew that he worked as a locksmith at the factory, I decided to ask him how to cope with a difficult task. As a result, he said that a material is needed that is stronger than the saw blade. In domestic conditions, this can be a tool for drilling a tile. I was really surprised by his advice, but decided to listen to a more experienced friend.

For To drill a hole in such a hard metal, a drill bit with a superhard alloy tip was required. I had one in the workshop, but the edges were already knocked down because I used it a lot for its intended purpose. They only managed to make a small hole, core.

Had to buy new, tetrahedral, as the packaging says alloy tip VK 6. This alloy is 94% tungsten carbide and 6% cobalt. Has a high degree of wear resistance.

Not to say that things went right away, I had to make enough efforts to remove the edges, the fact is that the drill was not sharpened correctly for drilling metal. Therefore, you have to strain.
