Hello dear readers of the channel and dear subscribers of the author's channel "Timofey Mikhailov".

Polypropylene pipesThey are very common throughout the former Soviet Union. Therefore, the information below will be useful to everyone

Recently, a neighbor boasted to me that he himself changed the water pipes for the first time. Having bought a welding machine for 1000 rubles. To my question, have you ever observed the technology? He answered me: "What's there to solder? heat up and dock! "...

I see, I thought to myself. And I decided to conduct an educational program with him. After talking with him, about non-compliance with the technology on his part, he was very scared and wanted to redo the pipes. But I calmed him down, you live on the first floor, there is no one to drown: )

What kind of mistakes do I make when working with this material? Let's start in order, from small mistakes to large and dangerous ones.

  • 1) It is important to use pipes and fittings one manufacturer, the composition of polypropylene is different, each company has its own. Although there are GOSTs and TUs for the production of fittings, various additives in their composition probably interfere in order to save money. Heterogeneous pipes and parts are welded less efficiently.
  • 2) By joining the heated pipe and fitting many of them "throw " and begin to perform other tasks. It is important, for some time, to hold them with your hands, in each other. If this is not done, then the pipe and the part come out of the connection by a few mm. Such a seam cannot be called quality.
  • 3) An important condition for welding polypropylene pipes is their purity. Many works are carried out on construction sites, dust, dirt, these are natural attributes of the work. At a minimum, the ends of the pipes and fittings to be welded should be wiped with a clean rag to remove dust and dirt particles. At the most, heated parts should be wiped with alcohol.
  • 4) Perform socket welding below 5 degrees Celsius is a mistake. Polypropylene is a material that is very afraid of installation at low temperatures. And when negative, it breaks easily.
  • 5) When heating pipes, as well as when docking heated parts must not be rotated. If you do this, then the connections that have already been formed in the first second of docking are broken. The strength is lost. Therefore, the earlier should be docked, so as not to rotate from each other.
  • 6) An important condition for welding is time holding the pipe and fitting in "soldering irons". Surely many do not know the holding time, so you should refer to the instructions for the welder. But at the same time, it must be understood that pipes from different manufacturers differ in refractoriness, nozzles are different in terms of heat capacity and coating. Therefore, you need to pay attention to all factors. Underheating threatens not to solder the parts to be connected, and accordingly, a leak may appear.

  • 7) Do not overheat! It is important to understand that the overheated material did not fit well. There is a narrowing of the flow area. This is the main mistake for which polypropylene is not liked.

What do you say? My comrade and friend. Have you described the correct errors?
