One of the devices that seriously facilitate the work of the hostess is a mixer with a shower for the kitchen. Using a tap of this design allows you to draw water in containers of various sizes, greatly facilitates washing dishes, and also allows you to rinse the sink with a directed stream of water.

Today, there are several modifications of such mixers on the plumbing fixtures market - and in this article we will tell you about their key features.

Differences from conventional mixers

The kitchen taps we are accustomed to are most often equipped with a fairly high spout pipe that rotates around an axis. Undoubtedly, this design is quite convenient, although it is not without some disadvantages. These include the low mobility of the kitchen tap, as well as the abundance of splashes with a high pressure of water.

Unlike conventional taps, kitchen faucets with pull-out showerheads are equipped with a fairly short spout that connects to the water pipes with a flexible hose.

This allows us to neutralize the disadvantages inherent in traditional models:

  • The compact size of the device with the folded hose does not clutter kitchen sink, facilitating all the manipulations when washing dishes.
  • The long enough retractable hose allows you to pour water into containers outside the sink. This is especially convenient in situations where the sink is cluttered with dishes - for example, when holding a family celebration.
  • The flexible hose allows you to direct the stream of water at the angle we need, which makes it possible to efficiently rinse dishes of complex configuration, for example, a baking dish. Therefore, we can say that the kitchen faucet with a pull-out shower saves some time and detergents!

You can appreciate all the advantages that a kitchen faucet with a shower provides over a traditional faucet if you watch a video showing the operation of this device. But the best estimate, of course, will be your own experience with such a crane!

Design features

Kitchen faucets with a shower can be of different designs:

Appearance and diagram of the device

Appearance and diagram of the device

  • The most common is the model in which the "spout" of the spout itself is mobile, acting simultaneously as a nozzle on a hose with a metal or polymer braid (see. also kitchen faucet with pull-out spout).
  • Somewhat less common are faucets with a shower for the kitchen, in which only a small nozzle on the hose is movable.
Such a mixer has a conventional configuration, i.e. The spout is large enough to be used like a normal kitchen tap. The shower part is taken out only when necessary.
  • Finally, the third type is a pull-out kitchen faucet, the hose of which is installed on a separate stand. That is, the design actually has two spouts: regular and flexible.
Semi-professional model

Semi-professional model

Also an important factor when choosing such a device should be the length of its hose. The longer the hose, the more possibilities for manipulation with the stream of water, but at the same time, too long a hose makes it difficult to work with the shower head.

Most of the models on the market are equipped with hoses from 30 to 70 cm, but there are also devices with meter-long reinforced hoses.

Advice!
When choosing a model, pay attention to the quality of the hose reinforcement, since it is this part that most often fails.

Models

Most of the devices in this category are divided into two groups - compact and semi-professional models.

Antique crane from Newform

  • A compact kitchen faucet with a shower does not practically differ from the usual one. In this case, the hose is hidden under the sink, and the nozzle is part of the spout. To fasten the attachment, either a latch made of elastic material or a polymer sleeve is used.
  • Compact models are equipped with metal or rubber braided hoses. Corrugated hoses, although considered more reliable, are very rarely used in compact retractable cranes, since the dimensions of the corrugation do not allow it to pass through enough thin spout.
Short spout

  • Examples of such models are kitchen faucets with a shower from Kohler and Newform, shown in the photo in this article.
  • For semi-professional models, the shower part is mounted next to the spout or is part of it. At the same time, the hose is always in sight, because in most models it is protected by a metal spiral.
  • Professional mixers are often equipped with devices that regulate the type of jet and its pressure. Of course, the price of professional devices is slightly higher, but if you have the skills to wash dishes using such a mixer, it is very convenient.

Installation of a mixer with shower

Installation tools and materials

Despite the rather complex design, the kitchen faucet with a pull-out showerhead can be installed by hand. For this we need:

Bucket or basin - in them we will collect the flowing tap water.

  • Spanners.
  • Adjustable wrench.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Rags.

In addition, in some cases it becomes necessary to widen the hole in the sink to install the mixer - so often happens when I mount a model designed for granite on a standard stainless steel sink sinks. For expansion, you can use a drill with a metal cutter, and the edges of the hole will need to be aligned with a file.

Installation and connection

The instructions for installing and connecting this device to the water supply are quite simple:

Installation procedure

Installation procedure

  • Before starting work, shut off the water supply valves (both hot and cold).
  • Using wrenches, and, if necessary, an adjustable wrench, dismantle the previously installed crane from the surface of the table top.
  • We unscrew the nuts securing the connection of the mixer to the water supply. We carefully drain the water into a substituted bucket or basin.
  • We connect a flexible hose to the new mixer, after which we pass them through the hole in the sink.
  • We install the body in the hole, and, holding it in an upright position, fix it from below with a nut under the sink.
Water connection

Water connection

Advice!
This operation is most conveniently performed by two people: one holds the body, and the second tightens the fastening with a wrench.

  • The pipes extending from the body are connected to the water pipes. To avoid confusion in the future, we follow the marking: hot water is marked in red, cold water - in blue.
  • We install a sinker on the flexible part of the hose and fix it with the screws included in the kit. We check how freely the shower moves, if necessary, we correct the position of the body or expand the hole in the sink.

After that, you can check how well the system works (see. also how to fix a kitchen faucet). To avoid clogging, remove the mesh filter from the shower and turn on the water for a few minutes at maximum pressure. If everything is in order and there are no leaks anywhere, you can return the splitter filter to its place.

By following these instructions, you will be able to install the mixer and shower in the kitchen yourself, and then you will appreciate all its advantages. It turns out that washing dishes is not that unpleasant task!
