Walnut

This tree grows well in the south of our country, although it can be found in central Russia. The tree is branchy and very large, so you will need enough space to plant.

Growing a walnut is possible both from the walnut itself and from a seedling. The second option is more preferable, since the survival rate of seedlings is much better than the germination rate of nuts.

The walnut tree is unpretentious to the composition of the soil, but it is better if it is sandy. Young trees are not resistant to cold, however, over time, this problem disappears completely. However, it is necessary to cover the seedling thoroughly during frost and water abundantly during dry periods.

Ideal, Serotina and Astakhovsky varieties are best suited for our climate. Walnut begins to bear fruit at the age of 10-12.

Hazelnut (hazel)

This tree is very unpretentious and can be planted with walnuts, root shoots or cuttings. The pluses include frost resistance and full adaptation to local climatic conditions. In addition, the benefits of hazelnuts and their taste are beyond doubt.

It is best if the soil is loose and rich in lime. The plant is unpretentious to sunlight, but abundant watering is vital for a good harvest. By the way, it does not happen every year. In other seasons, the plant simply rests.

Planting is no different from other trees. A hole is dug up to a depth of 40-50 cm, into which fertilizer and a seedling are placed. It is better to prune a young tree, leaving no more than 10-12 strong shoots. Hazelnuts begin to bear fruit at 5-7 years of age.

Almond

This heat-loving plant practically does not take root in central Russia, therefore it can be recommended only for the southern regions. The tree loves light, tolerates drought well. It gives preference to loose soils with a predominance of lime.

Almonds can be grown either from a nut or by grafting to another fertile tree. The donor is usually plum, peach or cherry plum. It should be remembered that pollination is necessary for fruiting, so a single tree is unlikely to be able to form fruit.

The best varieties are Pink Flamingo, Anyuta, Dream and Pink Mist. Fruiting occurs at 3-4 years of plant life.

Red and green hazelnuts

This delicious nut is a domesticated variant of the hazelnut. It is a little more whimsical to care for, but it is capable of producing a more stable crop. It is advisable to plant several trees at once, since otherwise the pollination process can become a big problem.

Of the varieties of red hazelnuts, Isaevsky, Pushkin red, Moscow ruby, Purple are distinguished. From green - Pervenets, Severny and Tambov early.

The tree is extremely demanding for watering and soil fertility. Grows well on forest and black earth soils. But direct sunlight is not at all necessary. Ideally, hazelnuts should be planted in areas with high groundwater levels.

The tree begins to bear fruit at 6-8 years of age. For a bountiful harvest, pruning and periodic feeding are required.
