Good afternoon, my reader. Planting greens or some vegetables in a greenhouse contributes to the early ripening of vitamin products. The main shelter in this situation is the film, which should be especially securely fixed on the arcs so as not to be blown off by a strong wind. This will protect the seedlings from low temperatures.

Strengthening the film

You can cover a greenhouse made of arcs quite quickly if you follow the following sequence of actions:

  1. A roll of polyethylene is thrown over the installed frame without preliminary cutting.
  2. The material is pulled. On both sides, about 25-30 cm is left below. This is required to subsequently ensure reliable fastening of the canvases. Measure the straight edge and cut off.
  3. Such actions are repeated along the entire length of the frame, placing individual pieces of the film overlapping, which further ensures the absence of cracks.

  4. All cut strips are distributed in the same order as on the frame on a flat area. Fasten them with tape. For reliability, you can pre-stitch them with a thin fishing line.
  5. Cover the arcs with the resulting canvas, which is then fixed on the lower stiffener. To this end, the ends of the film, left in advance, are folded inward and stitched with a strong twine using a zigzag overlock stitch.

To ensure reliability, you can purchase tape in specialized stores. It is measured and attached to a wooden frame with a stapler or studs. The ends of the canvases are glued to this tape, which are not damaged with this method.

On a greenhouse made of wooden slats and beams, the film shelter is fixed with self-tapping screws. You can use studs under which overlays are installed to prevent the fabric from breaking.

A few tips for a reliable greenhouse

It is important that a structure designed to protect plants from adverse environmental influences does not fail until the end of the growing season. This result can be achieved if you follow a number of proven recommendations:

  • Carrying out a preliminary accurate calculation of the amount of material, since polyethylene is sold in rolls with different widths.
  • Using a double layer film.
  • To ensure the integrity of the coating throughout the entire period from early March to the last month of autumn it is recommended to use a reinforced canvas, which has a higher strength, due to the inclusion in the composition special threads.
  • For a short time, for example, only for the summer season, you can make a shelter in a greenhouse from ordinary film.

The duration of the greenhouse operation ensures the correct tension of the film web. If metal pipes are used for the frame, then it is worth pulling cuttings of plastic or rubber pipes on them. It is recommended to wrap them in a cloth. This will help protect the film, which can break under the influence of the burning sun at the points of contact with excessively heated metal.

It will be possible to avoid the heating of the frame, which is dangerous for polyethylene, in hot weather if you use PVC arcs. They are quite strong and durable.

A film cover securely attached to the arches of the greenhouse will serve as a guarantee of a good harvest of vegetables and various types of greens grown in such conditions.
