If you decide to change the switch or outlet in the house yourself, you cannot make mistakes. Remember that even the smallest error can damage the entire system.
The main mistakes that beginners make are as follows:
- twist copper wire with aluminum;
- insecurely secure contact;
- the wrong wire is opened by a switch, etc.
As a result, the consequences can be very serious, up to electric shock or fire in the apartment.
Today I want to raise the topic of electrical engineering and talk about which wire needs to be opened with a switch. Unfortunately, many people simply omit this point and do everything "at random". The realization of the mistake comes when it is too late.
What should the switch open
Everything that I will write about next was not invented by me. There are certain rules and regulations in which everything is clearly described. Many simply ignore these rules. Remember once and for all: the switch must only open the phase.
Think about it, the switches even indicate the amperage, which determines the maximum permissible load during operation.
That is why only the phase conductor should be opened with the switch. Electricity constantly flows in phase, while there is no electricity on the neutral conductor.
Let's imagine that you need to repair a cartridge. The first thing to do is to de-energize the cartridge. It is advisable to do this on the entire lighting group in order to protect yourself as much as possible from electric shock. If the switch is on the phase wire, then you can safely start repairing the cartridge.
Gross mistakes when connecting the switch
I hope you understand and remember why the switch must be installed only on the phase. Otherwise, if you climb into the cartridge, then you may well "rot" from the electric shock.
Even simple replacement of a light bulb becomes dangerous as it is energized. If the insulation of the wire is damaged, then the voltage will be transmitted even to the body of the chandelier.
I think you can imagine what would happen if you touch an energized lamp. You will become a current conductor. Note that according to the rules, it is forbidden to put any differential protection on the lighting groups.
If you put the switch on the neutral wire, you will notice how the LED lights will glow even when the switch is off. I had such a problem, so I decided to check and found out that the switch opens the wrong conductor.
At first glance, everything seems rather simple and inconsequential. But in reality, this is a serious problem. Incorrectly set the switch and you can get an electric shock or you will be forced to "admire" the constant flickering of the LEDs.
