In the last century, in the fifties, engineers engaged in an amazing development - the creation of a unique bunker that can move. The reason in this case was the growing tension between the Soviet Union and the United States. Moreover, the weapon has evolved and could cause serious damage, hit strategic targets, in particular command posts.
The Soviet command had a need to get at its disposal a unique technical properties and capabilities of a machine that could itself bury itself underground and get out again on surface. It was supposed to house a command post, appropriate equipment, and a life support system.
In 1965 g. completed work on the creation of such a technique called "Arrow". Unfortunately, it was not put into service, and this was due to the opinion of Marshal Grechko. He rejected the car during the show at the stage of its inspection. At the same time, the marshal had minimal information about the characteristics of this invention.
As Grechko explained, this option would be too high cost. In addition, in his opinion, the car could not really dig itself out and, in general, required improvement. The project was mothballed and for the next ten years no one even remembered such machines.
But the seventies came, a high-precision new weapon appeared and they returned to the already forgotten idea. But now an updated base in the form of MAZ 543v has appeared for the car. with a capacity of 550 horsepower. These characteristics made it possible to implement the plans built earlier. So in 1978 saw the light of a bunker called "Redoubt", which could move independently.
1. Briefly about the bunker
The car had four driving bridges. The driver's cabin was small, but it could easily accommodate 2 people. It was possible to sit in it only on one side, on the left. This structure weighed a lot - up to forty tons. The bunker was eleven meters long. At the same time, the car could reach speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
2. The main thing about digging
Unfortunately, Redoubt was not able to bury itself in the ground on its own. To hide it, the constant presence of another special vehicle was required. They buried him up to the roof. They left open the windows located in the area where the command center was located, as well as the air duct. It was mounted on the driver's cab.
The upper part was pitched. This was an important moment, which allowed the earth to fall directly under the wheels of the machine during the operation of the hydraulic jacks. They were not blocked and the bunker was able to move independently. Both according to plan and in fact, all the necessary actions were carried out promptly. In time about half an hour.
3. How the center functioned
There were no special technical innovations of the Soviet era installed here. It was planned to equip it with the equipment necessary for a specific task. Accumulators were obligatory here. The redoubt could not provide the point with electricity around the clock, as it required a lot of fuel. One hundred kilometers left 88 liters.
4. Protective function
The car had a specific goal - to hide underground and not give itself out in any way. Therefore, for its creation, the materials were taken rather light. Consequently, there can be no talk of any kind of protection. The bunker was simply not designed to come under fire.

5. What happened to Redoubt
A year after the creation of the bunker machine, in 1979. she was sent to Belarus. Here she took part in relevant shows. Moreover, many contemplators were in favor of adopting the technique. But even in this case, the matter did not go further than conversations. Seeing Redoubt at one of these events, Marshal Ustinov practically repeated the words Grechko said to Strela. He, too, found the car too expensive.

The last time the invention was shown in 1987, after which it was idle for a long time. In 1991 g. the bunker was taken to Nikolo-Uryupino, a village in the Moscow region, in which it was planned to open a museum. Redoubt reached the destination on its own. Today it just stands and rusts, forgotten and useless.
