Cucumbers are one of our favorite vegetables. What gardener doesn't like to boast that he can pull off a bucket of cucumbers at a time! Many wonderful dishes can be prepared with this vegetable: it is good and very healthy fresh, salted and pickled, in salads and preparations for the winter.

Traditionally, this vegetable is grown in greenhouses and greenhouses. Rarely outdoors if weather conditions permit.

One of the conditions for good fruiting of a cucumber is a strong root system. There are several ways that you can strengthen it.

We sow cucumbers correctly

Cucumbers are demanding on light fertile soils. Therefore, before planting seeds, it is necessary to prepare a soil mixture, which will consist of sand and humus. Mix in equal amounts.

Seeds are sown in special boxes. Some gardeners put the seeds in water for germination a few days before sowing. If a sprout has hatched from a seed, it can be planted. The seed is placed in the groove with the sprout up.

Careful transplant

After the appearance of permanent leaves, the seedlings are ready for transplanting. Cucumbers are difficult to tolerate this procedure, so they need to be transplanted carefully. Plants with a clod of earth are transferred into separate containers, the bottom of which must be with holes, or peat-baked pots.

Transplanting cucumber seedlings into open ground should be after the roots have grown and completely fill the glass.

The advantage of this method is to obtain an earlier harvest, and the procedure for transplanting from boxes to pots is a kind of pick. The root system is strengthened by stimulating the adventitious and lateral roots. On the other hand, sowing seeds directly into the ground is more gentle, there is no transplantation procedure, when already weak roots are subjected to additional manipulations. The seed germinates, and being in one place, it gradually develops and becomes a real strong cucumber bush. If you are in no hurry to sample early cucumbers, this method is very viable.

Hilling

Barely noticeable formations develop in the lower part of the cucumber stalks. These are adventitious roots. Hilling seedlings stimulates their development and strengthens the root system. This procedure must be done regularly, as the cucumber lash grows. This is also additional loosening of the soil. It is filled with oxygen and gives the roots additional strength for development.

Do not forget that hilling should be done very carefully. It is advisable to do this not with a shovel, but with small rakes or special devices. Our goal is to help the plant, not leave it without nutrition.

Top dressing

The correct organization of feeding will help to strengthen the root system, which means a stable yield of vegetables.

It is helpful to add superphosphate. Just sprinkle fertilizer granules on the ridge. After that, lay a layer of last year's straw around the holes, sprinkle it with soil and water it well. The straw will generate heat as it decomposes. And the roots of cucumbers love it.

They love cucumbers and wood ash feeding. And during the period of growing seedlings, and then, after transplanting into the greenhouse, regularly feed the vegetable. You can simply sprinkle around the stem or prepare infusions - mix ash, green grass and nettle in water. Let it brew for several days. When watering, add this mixture, it strengthens the greens and provides additional nutrition to the roots.

Remember that cucumbers should only be watered with warm, settled water. Preferably in the morning and evening.

"Strong roots - a good harvest" - they used to say in the old days. This applies to all vegetables, including cucumbers.
