The gap between the top cabinets and the ceiling can look messy, not to mention the constant dust layer on the surfaces of the frames. However, this gap can be used wisely.

The designer told about the existing options for its application. Natalia Balashova (artELLE - design).

Kitchen "under the ceiling" is beautiful, but how to implement it? The designer named 6 effective ways

6. High cornice or overhead strip

If the distance between the wall units and the ceiling is small, a higher ceiling cornice can be used. Today manufacturers offer a variety of models to suit a wide variety of interior styles.

For classics and neoclassics, gypsum or polyurethane options are suitable, and, for example, for scandium or Provence, you can purchase a cornice made of wood or even an elongated ventilation grill.

5. Mezzanine boxes

Another solution could be an additional row of cabinets. So you will not only improve the appearance of the kitchen, but also expand its functionality. Mezzanines can be made both closed and open.

An interesting option would also be a tier with glass or mirrored facades, which visually "dissolve" the headset, making it visually lighter while maintaining functionality. It will serve as a display case for accessories or, for example, a set of crystal glasses that you rarely use. These cabinets look especially magical when illuminated.

4. Cabinets above open shelves

If you want to free up the space above the work surface as much as possible, you can refuse the second tier of cabinets, but build a third one.

That is, install one or more open shelves directly above the worktop, and hang the cabinets under the ceiling. Moreover, their depth can be the same as that of the lower tier. This will create a kind of frame.

3. Organized storage

If you plan on storing crockery or decorative items on wall cabinets, make sure it looks organized.

Complete the top tier with a shelf and purchase visible boxes or baskets from the same collection. Such storage will appear orderly.

2. Plasterboard construction

Another option for using the space under the ceiling is a drywall box. You can hide communications in it, or the structure can be made wider and the top lighting can be arranged.

In addition, you can equip a shelf inside such a box. Note, however, that in rooms with low ceilings, plasterboard structures can appear cumbersome.

1. Wall in the color of the headset

If you paint the wall in the color of the headset, the gap under the ceiling will cease to be conspicuous. The contrast will disappear and the space will look like a single whole. Another option for playing with color can be the decoration of the wall to match the kitchen apron.
