Friends, I welcome everyone to our channel for self-taught beginners in welding and locksmiths. Many beginners are afraid of cutting channels with a grinder. The metal is thick here, you need a certain experience and skill. But today I will show you one trick with which a thick channel can be cut with a grinder without much effort and with good speed.

Often I have to weld such superstructure structures for cargo trailers. A channel is used on the racks here. Specifically in this photo there is a 10 channel. That is, the width of the channel base is 100 mm.

They often write to me in the comments that a welder should not work with a grinder, for this there is a locksmith. But I don't have a locksmith, so I also make a locksmith for myself.

How is the channel usually cut? Mark out two shelves and a base and then saw them one by one. That is, it turns out that you need to make 3 cuts and at the same time turn the channel also 3 times. Let's keep it simple!

From more or less thick-walled materials, a corner is cut easier and faster. We start cutting from the top and as the disc deepens, we can say that all 2 shelves are cut at the same time. Guess what I want to do? See further.

We just place the channel as well as the corner-top up. Under one of the shelves we put a piece of a professional pipe, a wooden block, or anything, even a brick. If only the top of the shelf looked up like a corner and all this was stable.

Exactly according to the markings, we begin to saw with a disc from the top. As we go deeper, cut one side a little, then a little other. So we alternate the cuts with a disc of 2 sides. The disc sinks easily into metal.

The cutting itself takes place quite quickly. Gone through one of the shelves and about half of the base, you can and a little more or less will remain. Now we put stops under the other shelf and start the cut from the other vertex.

We will cut off a small piece from the 12 channel using this technology. Together with the rearrangement of the stops under the shelf, it took me one and a half minutes for these 2 cuts. The sawing takes place calmly and without stress.

Also for security purposes. When we make the second cut, if the section of the channel to be sawn off is long, it is better not to finish off a little, but to break it. Then it will probably not jam the disc.

Friends, the video itself with the cutting process will be posted on the channel tomorrow, February 22 (Monday). For those who are interested in the topic, be sure to take a look.
