Good afternoon, my reader. Even with careful selection and after planting, there is a chance that the seedling will not take root. Compliance with the rules of agricultural technology will help to avoid these unpleasant moments.

Common mistakes

First of all, planting seedlings does not tolerate haste. Preparing pits requires compliance with certain rules:

  1. Nests are prepared at least 2 weeks in advance. This is how long it takes for the soil to settle and be enriched with a sufficient amount of nutrients. If the seedling is placed in a freshly dug hole, the plant will experience prolonged stress after transplanting. Immunity will be weakened.
  2. The root collar of most fruit trees and some shrubs is not buried. It is placed either flush with the ground, or 4-5 cm higher. A deeply buried root collar is subject to rotting, and the root system is subject to evaporation.

During planting, some growers prune roots that will not fit in the planting hole. This cannot be done - the root system is injured, fresh wounds can become a bait for pathogenic bacteria and insects. In this case, it is better to expand the hole to the required size.

Some of the nuances of transportation cannot be neglected. If certain measures are not followed, the seedling may die:

  1. Vigorous plants are laid horizontally on a bedding covering material. Cover with burlap or matting on top. Low-growing shrubs are transported in an upright position, covering the root system with a film.
  2. Before moving, the seedlings are prepared. All foliage is removed, the roots are covered with a damp cloth so that they do not dry out or are dipped in a clay mixture.
  3. After moving and before planting, the plant is placed in water for 18 hours.

Experienced gardeners are advised to purchase plants from proven nurseries. And first, carefully examine the young tree: for signs of decay, disease or insect pests. By purchasing a diseased plant, it is possible to infect the entire garden.

Do not choose seedlings with a bare root system. It dries quickly - in 2 hours.

Care rules

After planting, proper care of the seedlings is important.

Watering

For young plants, the watering regime is important. Not only at the planting stage, but throughout the entire rooting period. Lack of moisture will cause the tree to wither.

Water is used settled. It is poured not under the trunk, but filling the root circle or ditches specially dug 1 m from the trunk. At least 40 liters of water are consumed per plant, depending on the culture.

Pruning

Perform only with a sharp, disinfected instrument. This reduces the risk of contamination of the young plant with pathogenic bacteria.

The cut site is treated with garden pitch, preventing rotting and the ingress of spores of fungal diseases.

Dry shoots are removed in stages. So that a large branch does not break off and damage healthy ones. First of all, the top of the head is cut off and only then the base.

Incorrect fertilization

When feeding seedlings, a small amount of fertilizers is not so dangerous than an excess of them, which leads to salting of the soil.

Humus and manure are taken only mature, preferably used in the fall and thoroughly mixed with the ground. These measures are necessary in order not to burn the root system of the seedling. When decomposed, the components generate heat and are capable of injuring fragile roots.

Compliance with the rules of handling chemicals

Often gardeners have to resort to treating the site with chemicals. To get rid of a dangerous disease or an attack of insect pests. With such measures, it is important to observe the dose of the drug. Its excessive use leads to burns or even death of young trees.

Gardeners try to avoid common mistakes in the selection of seedlings, their transportation, planting and further care. This increases the likelihood that the plant will take root and bear fruit safely.
