Who is the most formidable animal in the forest? Many citizens will agree that the "king of beasts" in our latitudes is a bear. Others will immediately remember about wolves. Even an elk is by no means as harmless as it might seem. At the same time, many comrades completely forget about such a forest threat as a wild boar that unexpectedly jumped out onto the trail. What to do when he appeared right in front of you and is already looking with meaning?
In order to know what can be done when meeting a wild boar, you need to understand at least a little of this animal. The first and foremost thing to understand is - average running speed wild boar is 35-40 km / h. Maximum running speed a person with very good physical fitness is 45 km / h. That is, most people, on average, run much slower than the wild boar.
The next thing to understand: the wild boar is a herd cattle. There is a strict hierarchy and strict discipline in the boar herd. The head of the herd is the female sow, who usually leads the family. She is always followed by 3-4 gilts (piglets) from the brood at the age of 1-2 years. Another 1-2 adults, as a rule, are old wild boars, close the "pork column". Like any other wild animal, the boar tries to avoid hazards when moving through the forest, and therefore the sow walking first, “Reads the forest” with the help of his sense of smell and tries to take the brood away from sin at the slightest suspicion of the presence of problems. There are also single boars. As a rule, these are young males or females who have not yet acquired offspring.
In any case, the boar himself is not looking for a meeting with a person. A person has a very specific unfamiliar smell for wild animals, and therefore even wolves opportunities (and not in a hungry year) try to bypass it, like everything little-known and potentially dangerous. Most often, hunters and gamekeepers meet with wild boars, who are looking for such a meeting purposefully out of sports or economic interests. Of course, no one is safe from a chance meeting.

What to do if just this happened, and you found yourself on a forest path face to face with a wild boar? So, running away from a boar is the biggest foolishness you can do. The boar is not a bloodthirsty creature, but frightened, for loyalty it is guaranteed to gore a person who has entered its territory with a fang in order to protect himself and his offspring. The boar will easily kill even a trained hunter. The best thing to do is to act according to the situation. If the animal is still not attacking, then you can try to freeze in place and do nothing. It is highly likely that the boar will simply sniff the air and go home. If the animal shows aggression, then the only thing that remains is to try to climb somewhere higher and wait it out.

Although, of course, sometimes completely strange boars come across. For example, here is a photograph from the Ryazan region, where for many years the same wild boar comes out to people on the beach, is not afraid of anyone, but does not touch anyone either.
