Greetings to all self-taught beginners in welding and locksmiths. Today I will show you a simple trick on how to make a pipe fit so that it sits tightly with its end on the surface of another pipe.

This is called pipe-in-pipe insertion. In this way, pipes can be adjusted at any angle. No complicated calculations, no geometry!

In the 2 photo above, we have 2 pipes with dimensions of 76 mm and 48 mm. Our task is to make the smaller pipe sit tightly on the surface of the larger one. That is, we need to cut the end of the 48 pipe with a grinder in such a way that there are no large gaps when the pipes are mated.

I grabbed the corner for clarity of the example, it is like a guide. So that this corner remains. So that the reader can see that I have not invented anything, have not adjusted how it will turn out!

Instead of complex calculations and computer programs for making paper patterns, we will buy a set of barbecue skewers, a roll of scotch tape and a couple of rubber bands from the household department. This set can replace all geometry in such a thing! Well, if the pipes are not particularly large in diameter, this is a garage fitting method.

We wrap the cut-in pipe 48 with wooden skewers in one layer. We fix the whole thing with elastic bands so that it is tight and tight. The skewers are sharpened on one side, we align them in a circle at one level with the end of the pipe with the not sharp side. This will make the markup more accurate.

We lower all the pieces of wood in a circle until it touches the surface of the pipe into which we need to crash. So we find the desired contour for the cut-in pipe, which we then cut off with a grinder.

Now we remove the pipe with pieces of wood and wrap this position with tape several times. This will firmly fix the desired shape for marking.

We move the entire wooden structure along the pipe, inward from the end, until the farthest skewers are aligned with the end of the pipe. And at this moment, you can make a marking-marker, pencil, we lead along the end of the structure from our pieces of wood.

There is a marking on the pipe, we remove our wooden mold and with a grinder we cut out the already unnecessary part strictly according to the marking. Let's see what result we got.

That's all, the mating point turned out to be quite tight, there are simply no critically large gaps. The method is simple but accurate. Take some locksmith tricks into your arsenal!
