Not so long ago, drivers began to face incomprehensible situations when traffic police officers are trying to fine them for installing a trunk. Just a few years ago, almost every workshop was engaged in the installation of external roof racks. Moreover, many who want to install the trunk simply cooked it on their own or with the help of friends and acquaintances in the garage. The crux of the matter is that in 2020 new requirements of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union came into force. Now, according to them, any change in the design of the car (including the installation of a trunk on the lid) must be preliminarily approved by the traffic police, having passed certification in a special laboratory. In addition to luggage racks, headlights and towbars also began to raise questions from the police. If you do not pass the certification procedure, then, according to the law, such a vehicle will be considered unsuitable for driving.
Recall that in accordance with Article 12.5 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation, police officers have the right to impose a fine of 500 rubles or issue a warning those motorists who drive a vehicle with existing malfunctions, operation with which is prohibited by the law. In the case of luggage racks, inspectors have every reason not only to take a fine, but also to demand that the “problem” be eliminated on the spot - to remove the trunk.

At the same time, do not forget that many car models rely on a regular external trunk. They are produced by factories that manufacture machines or components. The regular trunk is sold with a set of relevant documents, and therefore they can be safely operated without being checked by the traffic police. It goes without saying that everything is not so simple here, the driver must monitor the transported weight. In no case should it exceed the norm established in the technical characteristics of the equipment (most often it is 100 kg).
