Good afternoon, my reader. Before each planting season, gardeners fear an invasion of pests. Colorado beetles are especially common. This type of insect attacks potato bushes. They eat up the foliage, leaving one stem, and this leads to loss of yield. If the bugs are not removed in time, other nightshade crops, such as eggplants or tomatoes, will also suffer. Let's figure out what to do and how it is customary to process plants in order to protect them, as well as the future harvest from harmful insects.

Description of the pest

Colorado beetles at their summer cottage were met by all gardeners. These are bright insects with black stripes. Together with them, motley larvae are found on plantings. The pest feeds on the deciduous pulp of plants of the Solanaceae family, often potato bushes. If you do not stop the beetles, then all the bushes will be gnawed, only the stems will remain.

Bushes damaged by the pest dry out quickly. The reason for this is the loss of the ability to absorb moisture from the soil, which means that the development will receive a deficiency of nutrients. Colorado beetles are dangerous by their rapid reproduction, sometimes two or more generations are replaced during the season. If the time is unfavorable, then the insects hibernate for up to 3 years. Sometimes they fly over from other vegetable gardens.

How to deal with Colorado beetles

There are many methods for controlling pests, including beetles on potatoes. All of them differ in composition and method of application, degree of effectiveness. Usually one kind does not work, since insects are difficult to remove. Therefore, it will be better to use a set of measures (chemical, mechanical and folk).

Common ways to eliminate beetles:

  • planting onions, wormwood, calendula and hemlock next to potatoes to scare away;
  • manual collection of detected insects, larvae and their destruction;
  • observance of crop rotation, crop rotation to restore fertility;
  • processing with ash and soap with water, tar and infusion of bitter plants;
  • chemical works for spraying plants using insecticides.
Fighting Colorado beetles makes life difficult for gardeners. The problem is that insects are becoming resistant to traditional drugs, which makes them useless. Many products are washed away by rain, and high temperatures in summer reduce their effectiveness. Therefore, the methods must be constantly alternated or used in combination.

Try Corado

Popular among summer residents is the drug "Corado" - a relatively new, but already shown to be effective drug. Affects the Colorado potato beetle and apple aphid. Refers to pesticides, acts against both adult insects and larvae. The manufacturer guarantees an almost 100% result.

  • accumulation in tubers does not occur, which makes it as harmless as possible;
  • the effect of protecting potatoes lasts up to 1 month after treatment;
  • leads to the death of almost 100% of pests at any stage of their development;
  • is consumed slowly, 1 ml per 10 liters of water will be enough for 1 hundred square meters.
As soon as spraying is over, the first result will already be observed. After 1-1.5 hours, the larvae with insects do not feed on the plant, but some activity is still preserved. Pests completely die on the second or third day after treatment. This medication is available in the form of 1 or 5 ml ampoules and 10 ml vials. Everyone will be able to choose a convenient packaging.

Corado solution preparation

There is nothing difficult in obtaining the desired solution, it is important to carefully read the instructions. First, fill the bucket with 1 liter of water, and then open the ampoule and add its contents, mix. According to the table on the package, dilute the mixture to the required volume. Spraying should be carried out immediately, the weather should be dry and calm. Best time: in the morning before 10 o'clock and from 6 to 11 pm. The optimum outdoor temperature is 12-25 ° C.
