Every year, certain innovations appear on the automotive market. Progress does not stand still. At the same time, many proposals of designers and constructors turn out to be absolutely useless. For a completely obvious and reasonable reason, they could not take root, despite all their seeming and seemingly undeniable usefulness for motorists.
1. Lockable hood
At first glance, the idea is extremely useful, especially in improving car theft protection. However, in practice, only one company tried to implement this feature, and that was the American Ford. In addition, the locks supplied to some models did not differ in quality, and therefore often jammed and broke. In the end, the idea never caught on.
2. Pedestrian airbags
What engineers have not tried to do with the front of cars to increase the chances of survival of a pedestrian caught under the wheels. The apotheosis of the evolution of protective elements was the external airbags, which appeared several years ago on the Volvo XC40. True, the use of the pillow turned out to be about "not at all", since in most cases the contact between the car and the pedestrian is too painful.
3. Combination locks
Americans seem to love experimenting with locks! Several years ago, the first digital lock appeared on Ford cars, which can be opened by entering the correct code. In most cases, it only complements the main traditional castle. Although the feature still appears on some models, it has never been widely adopted.

4. Beep on switch
Engineers have more than once made an attempt to take out the sound signal somewhere outside the steering wheel. The most striking attempt was made not so long ago. They tried to set a dial tone on one of the side switches. It turned out that this location of the emergency button is not very convenient and ergonomic.

5. Automatic seat belts
The idea of automatic belts that fasten on the driver's body as soon as he closes his car door was good enough. But as is very often the case in such cases - the implementation let us down. The system turned out to be completely incomplete. Worst of all, it did not allow drivers to perform even basic actions in the cabin, in addition to driving a vehicle.
