What to collect the roof for? Self-tapping screws or nails. Made a visual experiment. Came to a consensus

The roofers assembled my roof with screws and a metal plate. Nails were also used in the collection of critical structures.

But the bulk of the fasteners of the entire rafter system is assembled on yellow and black self-tapping screws. At first, the foreman ordered all the black self-tapping screws, to which I argued that they were rather fragile and it was necessary to use yellow ones, as well as more nails. In response, he said:

"Take the yellow ones, it doesn't matter for us what to work with. Both are suitable for work on the roof, many have roofs assembled with self-tapping screws, we know where they should be used, and where nails are better...

His confidence convinced me.

Two months have passed after collecting the roof, it got a little warmer and I decided to finish the work for the shabashniki. Why am I wasting my time finishing work for hired workers? Now I will show you an illustrative example:

I typed from my construction site BLACK and YELLOW self-tapping screws. RUFFLED and REGULAR nails. Twisted and nailed to a pine board.

Well, I decided to wave a hammer, mercilessly hitting the edges of the fasteners.

In the end, this is what happens. All the black screws flew off after the first blow. The yellows did the same thing, except for one thing.

Screw and regular nails, after bending can be returned to their previous position. They don't break off.

The metal of the self-tapping screws is heat treated and quenched. In order to prevent torsional loads arising from the screwdriver when screwing in, they do not curl up into a "steering wheel". But this is their minus, respectively, they become fragile. That under certain conditions arising from wind and snow loads, for example, in the roof, will lead to their breakdown. In this case, the roof can go away or fly away, depending on how the "card" will fall.

Here's what I came up with: Self-tapping screws should be used during the initial assembly of wooden structures, you see, it's convenient. After the structure has received its shape and is held on "screws". They should be "tied" with nails. In this case, the maximum amount of lumber should be nailed.
