The easiest, fastest and most correct way to measure the diameter of wires, lines and wires is to use a good old caliper. However, a useful tool is far from always at hand when it takes time. It may happen that you will have to get out with the means at hand. Especially for such moments, there is one method of measuring the diameter of a wire that has been proven since Soviet times.
So, in order to find out the diameter of a wire, wire or fishing line without using a caliper, you need a regular ruler and something that will then allow you to perform the simplest arithmetic operation (including a head with a school education). The proposed method is widely used and allows you to determine the thickness of the wire with a fairly high degree of accuracy.
In order to find out the diameter of the product, you can go one of two ways. The first one, with unnecessary complications - for this we wind the wire around a pencil or pen, and then apply it carefully with the beginning of the twist to 0 on the ruler. The second method is not so elegant, but it is devoid of unnecessary actions - we wind the wire directly onto the ruler. We continue to twist until the twist reaches some representative length, for example 3-4 cm.
It is important to note here that the wire wrapping should be as tight as possible. To do this with all types of products directly on the line may not work. Therefore, you still have to use the first method with a pencil, tube or rod. If the wire is stiff, then it will be useful to fix the tube in a vice for greater convenience of work.

When the promotion is completed, little will be left to do. It is necessary to measure its length as accurately as possible. Next, the number of turns made is calculated. After that, it remains only to divide the length of our twisting by the number of turns made and we will get the diameter of the wire.
