Owners of private houses always try to put the yard in order so that it is pleasant to relax in it or work in the fresh air. Especially creative enthusiasts manage to arrange exotic compositions or art objects in the courtyard, which bring them pleasure, and envy the neighbors. For example, the owners of a boring Southern California yard have finally found the time to transform it. In just 8 hours, the backyard turned into a place that turns into a fairy tale in the dark.
The time of vacations not only brings a long-awaited rest, but also inspires to transform your home and yard (if any). During the working months, there is a catastrophic lack of energy and time for creative experiments. Vacation is another matter, that's when you can stretch out. This is exactly what the American family from So Cal, in Southern California, did. People just got tired of seeing a boring, half-abandoned backyard, which served as a place of entertainment for only a dozen of neighboring cats and could not please the owners with anything.
The creation of something extraordinary required large financial investments, which the family did not have, so it was decided to make out the "lunar landscape" practically from scrap materials. Due to the high cost, the owner of the house, Tiffany, who is the main generator of ideas, refused to lay out an exotic garden immersed in greenery. The changes in plans turned out to be fortunate, because the region in which they live is very arid, so the plants would require constant care and abundant watering (which is also expensive!).
To begin with, we analyzed the site and what was available, then decided on the composition and went shopping. As a result, they purchased only medium-sized gravel, pebbles, a roll of black PVC waterproofing film, various models of solar lanterns and plants - these were cacti and succulents that did not require special care and abundance moisture.
To begin the transformation, it was necessary to clear the backyard of debris, thickets and weeds, and also level the soil as much as possible. This was done by men - a spouse and an adult son. Since not the entire site will be transformed, but only its center, at first they made edging using concrete curbs left by the previous owner and the adjacent space were covered with pebbles of various size. When the borders were ready, they started to decorate the composition.
In order to avoid the germination of grass and overgrowth of trees, the allocated area was filled with a special solution to destroy weeds and covered with black film. After that, a fire bowl was installed, which was purchased earlier from a neighbor for only 5 dollars. and put bags of gravel all over the area. This facilitated the work in the future, because all that remained was to open them and pour the contents of the bags onto the film.
After the surface of the site was leveled, it was possible to lay boulders and huge cobblestones, which were kindly donated by a neighbor. Oddly enough, but the "lunar landscape" was created very quickly. While the men were busy laying out stones, the hostess of the house planted the acquired plants. Some of them were placed in a bowl for a fire, the result was a cactus-succulent garden. The only thing is that the flowerbed has an attractive appearance, the burnt sides and rusted legs of the structure are painted with different colors of paint, creating an interesting geometric pattern.
The creative lady freely distributed the remaining large cacti throughout the site. Since the site from the side of the house was covered with pebbles, now this part of the composition serves as an island of a solid path, imitating a winding river, but on the other hand, they decided to make a hedge from a ground cover plant - Creeping Jenny. In the summer, it will give bright greenery, and in the fall, it will delight you with yellow flowers. After the end of the planting work, all that remained was to install the lanterns and enjoy the beauty in the evening. lights that arrange a real end of light, turning the transformed area into a fabulous a place.
Interesting fact from Novate.ru: All the transformations took the American family only 8 hours, 420 dollars. and an irresistible desire to make a magical place out of a boring backyard. And the most interesting thing is that in order to carve out these funds from the family budget, the enterprising hostess sold unnecessary things, in the end they had to add only 2 dollars.
The owners of the house liked this transformation, so the restless woman decided to make a recreation area in the backyard, as well as expand the composition a little. A few weekends, a minimum of effort and an old shop, as well as graceful wrought-iron chairs, became the protagonists of the courtyard. As the hostess herself admitted, she loves tinkering and transforming, and she does it all from improvised materials or interesting items purchased for mere pennies in thrift stores. This is how a huge plate appeared in the courtyard, which was attached to its legs, glass beads in the form of cobblestones, and a friend happily gave the garden chairs.

And the table is completely special, because on one of the Mother's holidays, when already adult children asked what she wanted as a gift, the creative mother wished to have handprints of all her household members. Tiffany bought a glass table, multi-colored paints and varnish for the cherished day. When the whole family was assembled, she painted their hands with them and everyone happily left prints on its glass surface (inside). She and her husband and children and their other halves participated in this touching action. When the multi-colored autographs were collected, after the paint had dried, the craftswoman covered them with white enamel and varnish from a spray can, so that the bad weather would not spoil the masterpiece dear to her heart.

The Briton has created a fantastic kitchen floor using... vinyl records, buttons and even clothespins. And it doesn't matter that she did all this work only out of revenge on her traitorous husband, because it was his collection of rare records that became the basis of her composition.
