The zipper is found on almost all types of clothing, footwear and accessories. However, there is one "but": products periodically break down and have to be repaired. What if you need to replace the slider, repair the tongue, or even if the snake has dispersed? Read the article on how to solve all the problems yourself.
1. A snake stuck at the base
Most often, the fastener breaks at the base, because the fibers of the fabric are seized in it. Over time, the material that holds the zipper looses and falls into the snake. In this case, collect the fabric at the base and saturate it with nail polish. Spread the product on a flat surface and leave to dry in the correct position. Then process the material again. It is better to select varnish to match the fabric. You can also use shoe glue or Moment. Once dry, the material will become stiffer and stop fraying.
2. Slider breakage
The slider may fail for the following reasons: due to poor-quality alloy, careless handling when opening and closing, if the material of the part does not match the material of the zipper. The edges of the slider diverge, stretch, which complicates the process of its movement. As a result, the fastener flies off altogether, and the zipper has to be repaired.
Repair sequence:
1. Use an awl to move the outer snake holders to remove the slider.
2. Take a close look at the product. If the degree of squeezing of the edges differs, they need to be leveled by narrowing the wide side.
3. Use pliers to press down alternately on both edges to make them the same. Important: you cannot clamp the part in the middle, otherwise break it completely. Also, do not overdo it, as you will not be able to insert the dog into the snake.
4. Once the part returns to its original shape, replace the slider and slide it over the zipper.
3. The clasp comes apart
A diverging snake indicates a weak runner. The loose dog stopped fixing the zipper in the closed position. The first thing you can do is tighten the slider along the sides, top and bottom. However, this method will only restore the product's performance for a short time. If the embarrassment happens again, the dog will have to be replaced.
To do this, you need to open the snake to free the ends at the top of the product. Remove the broken slider and install a new one. Finally, sew the top ends of the zipper back into the garment. An alternative option is to unclench the weak dog with a screwdriver, remove it, and then insert a new one in the same manner, pressing along the edges with pliers.
4. The snake lacks teeth
Over time, the teeth on the snake can break and fall out. Then, in some places, bald spots form, complicating the movement of the slider. In the case of a plastic snake, you need to purchase a thick line and drag it to the place where the teeth are missing. Wind the product several times to repeat the shape of the elements and make a knot. Use a lighter to fix the line and slide the dog over the zipper.
To repair a metal snake, you will need similar teeth. The shape and size must be identical, otherwise nothing will come of it. Separate the required number of prongs from the old zipper. Insert them into the broken snake and clamp with pliers. Check the strength of the fixation and, if necessary, repeat the manipulations. If the teeth did not fall out, but only began to interfere with the passage of the dog, open the snake and place it on a flat surface. Next, lightly tap the teeth with a hammer to restore them to their original condition.
5. Broken tongue on the dog
The best solution is to replace the slider. But if this happened at the most inopportune moment, you will have to find an alternative to the tongue. A metal clip, keyring ring, pin will do. Insert the element into the pawl and unfasten-fasten the product.
6. The dog is not fixed with a zipper
Another common problem is that the slider is not fixed and is constantly stretched out. In the case of jeans or trousers, you can get into an embarrassing situation, so use the following trick. Pass the key ring through the dog, close the zipper, hang the keychain on the button, and then fasten the loop. You can also use an elastic band. Whenever possible, try to squeeze the slider, or better - replace it with a new one.

Zipper care principles
1. Do not let small children play with the lock.
2. Avoid sudden movements. Unbutton and fasten the snake smoothly.
