Have you ever thought that any site on the Internet exists only as long as its owner pays for the domain and hosting?
I lost the hosting where I "lived" nadezhin.ru, as a result, pictures disappeared in all blog posts until 2016, along with the results of many tests.
This and several of my other sites were hosted by my previous job (there was a lot of space and my sites did not interfere with anyone), but the sysadmin, which, by the way, I once found through a blog, quit, and new people in one day "banged" all my data on the hosting (thanks, we made backups).
At first glance, it seems that when pictures disappeared in posts, it's not so scary - after all, the text with all the information remained, but everything is not so simple - I have to publish all the tables in the form of pictures and the tests were left without results.
Note that many platforms, when publishing, copy all pictures to themselves and in this case, the state of my hosting does not affect them in any way. For this reason, in my publications posted on Habr, Zen, Mirtesen, Pikabu, the pictures did not disappear.
Today I spent half a day restoring sites and transferring them to another hosting. I have been hosting for four years Beget, sites were hosted there https://lamptest.ru, https://elerus.ru and https://ammo1.ru, which contains all the pictures of the blog, starting in 2017. I had a "Start" tariff there with an increased disk space of 13 GB, which cost 3260 rubles a year.
I had to switch to the Noble tariff with 25 GB of disk space, which is already 5160 rubles per year.
Due to the fact that a referral link to Beget is posted on Lamptest and Elerus, I managed not to pay for hosting (referral income compensated for the cost of hosting), I don't know if it will be enough for a new, more expensive hosting, let's hope that will be. By the way, here is this link: https://beget.com/p392005 (Based on the results of four years of experience, I can say that Beget is really great hosting).
Now all my sites are working again and pictures in old posts have started to appear gradually.
Domains in the .ru zone are billed for a year. You can increase this period if you enable auto-renewal and keep an amount in the account with the registrar sufficient to renew it for several years in advance. But sooner or later we will all die and our sites will die with us (perhaps with a delay of several years). So on the Internet, alas, nothing lasts forever.
