Often, road markings are applied both in order to mark the lanes and for the purpose of demonstrating the edges of the road to the drivers of vehicles. This color can be white or yellow, which is sometimes still confused with temporary lines. However, these lines are now applied as permanent markings. What do they mean and can the driver be fined for crossing this line?

The second appendix to the traffic rules describes the types of horizontal road markings and their functions. It follows from it that yellow paint is used for lines of constant type 1.4, 1.10, 1.17, 1.26, each of which has its own purpose.

1.4 - solid yellow marking. The traffic rules indicate that it is used where it is prohibited to stop vehicles. The line is a supplement to the sign numbered 3.27. Since the signs can be installed at a considerable distance from each other, this lane shows the driver that it is prohibited to stop on this section of the road.

In cities, such a lane is present on highways and local roads. Outside the city and in villages, it is used on sections of route vehicles. In addition, a solid yellow line is drawn on highways with a width of over six meters and a daily traffic intensity of a thousand cars or more.

From the edge of the road bed, it is applied at a distance of ten to twenty centimeters. In places where a line is provided along the edge, this marking replaces it. On railway crossings, overpasses, bridges, where the rules prohibit stopping, such lines are not drawn.

2. Is it allowed to cross it

There are no special instructions in the traffic rules on this matter. Accordingly, if the driver runs into it and does not stop moving on, this will not be considered a violation. Problems can only arise if the vehicle stops and it doesn't matter if it crossed the yellow line or not. For this violation, the driver may receive a warning or pay a fine of 500 rubles. Provided that the car will interfere with the movement of other vehicles, the amount of the fine will be two thousand.
