Trust but verify. This phrase is relevant at all times. They are trying to deceive us literally at every step. Especially you need to be careful in stores and markets, regardless of their specialization: clothing, grocery, construction, etc.

The latter will be discussed in this article. I will tell you how not to run into deception when buying boards.

1. Sellers often make wrong measurements, deceiving naive buyers

Here you came to the market for an inch board, and you were sold a board 23 millimeters thick. It turns out that you overpaid for the goods, and the owner earned an additional "pretty penny" for you.

With one board, the difference is not striking, but if you need several of them, then the seller's profit will be substantial.

When going to purchase building materials, be sure to take a tape measure. Carefully measure the purchased boards, otherwise the seller will understand that you can "weld" on you and will stick boards of smaller thickness.

2. The second common method of cheating is selling material in smaller quantities.

Often, sellers round up numbers to benefit from it. Let's say the dealer convinces you that 45 inch boards fit in one cubic meter. I propose to check how right he is.

After carrying out the appropriate calculations, we get that 1 cubic meter is 45.4 inch boards. It turns out that the implementer writes 0.4 boards for himself as a plus, and for us, respectively, in a minus.

Then I laid out a table that helps to quickly and easily determine how many boards of a given size are contained in 1 cubic meter:

3. Sellers foist on you the wrong kind of wood

If you come to the market for a linden tree, this does not mean that you will go home with a linden tree. You can buy an aspen under the guise of a linden tree, and not know it. The deception will be revealed only after several years of using the boards. Linden is distinguished by its durability, does not deteriorate under the influence of moisture, does not rot, and therefore is used for finishing steam rooms. The cost of such boards is much higher than the cost of aspen boards.

In appearance, these types of wood are difficult to distinguish, especially if you have no experience in this matter. I will share with you effective methods to help you buy exactly what you need.

Take a close look at the color of the boards. Aspen is almost white, while linden has a coffee, dark shade.
Pay attention to the knots. Linden is distinguished by light, small, inconspicuous knots. In aspen, the knots are pronounced, dark.

Be sure to smell the boards. Aspen and linden have completely different aromas.

4. Sellers like to sell illiquid goods under the guise of quality goods

There are GOSTs, which clearly state what requirements sawn timber must meet. Possible deviations, the number of knots, resin pockets, etc. are indicated there.

If you hear from the seller the phrase that in his store there are "Extra-class" boards, be on your guard. Almost all materials of this class are exported from Russia.

In order not to be deceived, follow the loading of materials. Try to check the boards you buy.
