If the German "Tiger" was so good, why wasn't it copied in the USSR?

The German tank "Tiger" is very often perceived as a formidable and almost absolutely perfect combat vehicle of the Wehrmacht. Despite a number of difficult to dispute shortcomings, the heavy tank of the Reich was indeed a monstrous weapon of destruction. It is scary to imagine what would happen on the battlefields if Germany could afford to provide more of these tanks. Hence the question arises: if "Tiger" was so cool, why did they not even try to copy it in the USSR?

The Tiger was a very formidable machine, albeit not devoid of flaws. Tanks Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger" Ausf. E caused a huge number of problems on both the eastern and western fronts. History has repeatedly proved that there is nothing better than adopting a successful military idea or development from its opponent, provided that the latter has already been able to prove its effectiveness in practice. Heavy "Tigers" were able to prove their effectiveness, but in practice everything turned out to be not as simple as one might think. This is because both the Soviets and the allies did not dare to knock out a wedge with a wedge.

Throughout the war, the tanks of the USSR and Germany were more or less comparable in their characteristics. At the same time, it was decided to respond to the development of tank thought in the Reich in the Soviet Union with the development of anti-tank weapons. After all, it is quite logical that it is much more effective to create not exactly the same weapon, but something that will be a reciprocal decision. Therefore, in the USSR, they relied on anti-tank artillery, with which things were generally quite good since the beginning of the war. And in 1942, a real anti-tank boom began - the command decided to focus not on tanks, but on self-propelled guns.

The greatest successes in this field were achieved by Soviet designers by the spring of 1943, when new 85-mm guns for tanks and 122-mm guns for self-propelled guns went into series. The new calibers made it possible to cope with heavy German tanks with a sufficient degree of success. Therefore, there was simply no need to copy "Tigers" in the USSR. Moreover, after 1943, new models of their own cars appeared, which were no worse.
