Greetings to all the guests of our channel for self-taught beginners in welding and locksmiths. Here we share welding tricks and examples in simple language. All this, of course, you can comprehend and understand yourself, but it will take much more time, nerves and damaged metal!
MMA electrodes are available with either a rutile or basic coating. Rutile electrodes are most in demand in household welding. These are ANO-21, OK-46, MR-3 brands.
Why are they more in demand? It's just that in our household welding work, we often have to weld thin shaped pipes, and it is easier to weld them with frequent separation of the electrode.
And here is where the rutile electrodes are. They can be easily welded with frequent separation, point by point, we get a weld seam. Or you need to weld old pieces of metal with an imperfectly clean surface - in paint or a little rusty, here rutile electrodes will also calmly cope with their task. Why do we need basic coated electrodes?
The most popular and affordable of these electrodes is the UONI 1355 brand. These electrodes are cooked in solid form, without separation. Responsible structures are cooked from thicker metal.
Yes, and the surface for welding with uony needs to be prepared more carefully. Everything needs to be cleaned well, otherwise they will often fade and stick.
But there is another important difference when welding with rutile and basic electrodes.
Basic electrodes when welding give a brighter glow than rutile. Why is that?
It's all about a different weld pool, or rather the amount of floating slag on the surface of the molten metal.
If you weld with rutile-coated electrodes, the slag layer covers most of the weld pool. There is only a small strip of pure molten metal without slag near the tip of the electrode.
But the weld pool for electrodes with a basic coating is completely different. The surface of pure molten metal, not covered with slag, is quite large. The slag will go far from the tip of the electrode.
But it is the molten metal that gives this bright glow when welding. And the large slag-free weld pool surface naturally shines much brighter.
Usually, household welding begins with rutile electrodes at first. As you gain experience, be sure to try welding with a basic electrode. And the mask is already adapted for the same ANO-21.
Immediately there will be a large increase in the luminous flux, you need another glass on a simple mask, darker, or make a large degree of darkening on a chameleon mask. Otherwise, with long welding times at shade values for rutile electrodes, with basic ones, you can simply get eye problems.
I will not give advice on the brands of glass or adjustments on the chameleon mask. This is quite individual, for one eyes it will be comfortable in one mode, for the other with the same welding in the other. It is only better to remember about such a difference in the brightness of light between the rutile and main electrodes.
