In fact, with Finnish knives, everything is quite prosaic. The legendary "finca" is nothing more than a perfect example of what PR can do with some object, phenomenon or person. Finnish-type knives do not have any "miraculous properties", although they have several more or less stable features. This tool is rooted in the group of Scandinavian knives. Correctly, this knife is called, in a word, puukko. The separation of the Finnish puukko into an independent type of blade weapon took place approximately in the 17th-18th centuries. Moreover, such knives were used in Europe no earlier than in the 10th century.

As a rule, puukko have a straight blade with a short length, which is shorter than the handle. In most cases, the weapon has a very thick butt. In section, the blade is wedge-shaped. Directly in Finnish knives, there is also a bevel of the butt with a length of approximately 1/3 of the blade. The handle of the puukko is most often made of wood. At the same time, later interpretations of this knife also have a guard to protect the hand.

As is often the case, everything very simple is also terribly effective. Thanks to its uncomplicated design, the Finnish knife has simply amazing penetrating properties. It is for this reason that he gained immense popularity not only among the people, but also in criminal circles. In the Russian Empire, bandits have been using it since the 19th century. As a result, a criminal veil was entrenched in the "fin". Already after the 1917 revolution, this weapon was banned for free carrying due to its terrible spread among criminals.

A huge contribution to the romanticization of the Finns was also made by the fact that knives of this type were later adopted by the Red Army and the NKVD. Suffice it to say that the Soviet knife HP-40 is one of the variations of Finnish knives. Knowing this circumstance, already in our time, many unscrupulous businessmen create the most ridiculous handicrafts in the form of "finches" with Soviet paraphernalia, and then sell them under the guise of "special" knives of the NKVD.
