Top dressing of both greenhouse pepper seedlings and open beds is the same in composition - potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen, calcium and magnesium must be introduced in a timely manner.
Comfortable growth, development of the bush and the further amount of harvest depend on the correct introduction of these nutrients.
It should be borne in mind that feeding the newly planted seedlings and already grown bushes will differ in composition. In this case, you can use both organic fertilizers and purchased preparations. I'll tell you more about the tools that I use myself.
Folk remedies.
From folk remedies, I prefer wood ash, iodine solution or infusion of bird droppings.
Ash rich in minerals has a beneficial effect on the development and growth of pepper, strengthens the plant's immunity. The method of application is simple: 1 tbsp. l. I dilute the ashes in 2 liters of warm water, then insist for a day, filter and water the beds. It is important to monitor that the ash has the purest possible composition.
Iodine can significantly increase yields, destroy many pathogens and strengthen the stems. For a liter of water, take 2 drops of an alcohol solution and 0.1 l of milk whey, mix everything and water the plants.
Nitrogen-rich bird droppings are applied under the roots at the initial stages of growth and development of the bush. It significantly increases the volume of biomass, which has a beneficial effect on the general condition and increases the fertility of the crop.
Industrial fertilizers.
As for industrial fertilizers, I use monocomponent additives and complex preparations. I use single beneficial substances in cases when it is necessary to correct a local lack of a certain mineral. The multi-ingredient mixtures are balanced and prepared for general strengthening and nutrition. I recommend using them both for novice gardeners (this will reduce the chance of making mistakes with feeding), and for experienced gardeners to save a lot of time and effort.
During the flowering period, products with a high nitrogen content, which is extremely necessary for the plant's diet, come out on top.
I add nitrogen supplements either drip or dry. For pepper, the following are well suited:
- ammonium nitrate solution (15 g per 10 l - dissolve and pour);
- tincture of nettle leaf (0.1 kg of dry herbs per 3 liters of boiling water - dilute and insist for a week);
- humus (0.2 kg of mass per 1 liter - stir and water).
In dry form, I simply scatter the additives over the beds and water them with clean water.
During active fruit set, potassium becomes a decisive addition. I use:
- potassium magnesium (0.03 kg + 1 tsp. l. ammonium nitrate per 10 l);
- potassium sulphide (1 tsp. l. + 1 h l. urea + 2 tsp l. potassium monophosphate per 10 l).
Fertilizer "Dachnik" is applied as a dry additive.
When the pepper begins to bear fruit, calcium nutrition is vital for it. During this period, I add iodine solution and calcium nitrate powder, this is the best fertilizer for pepper at this time. In the midst of fruiting, I add a mixture of superphosphate: 2 tsp. l. powder + 4 tsp. l. calcium nitrate + 1 tsp l. potassium sulphide per 10 liters of pure water.
I will also note the fact that different varieties of pepper may differ in "food" requests. The sweet Bulgarian species needs root nutrition, the best "dish" for it will be a tincture of rotted manure, wood ash, onion husks and eggshells. For its spicy counterpart, bird droppings, coniferous ash and complex preparations with phosphorus and potassium are ideal.
During the season, it is better to carry out 6-7 dressings, starting from two weeks after planting with a periodic interval of 2-3 weeks.
