Almost every summer resident has cucumbers in the garden. Although popular, this vegetable is not easy to grow. This is especially true of air temperature, which is extremely important for the full development of vegetables. We will talk about this now.
What night temperature should be for growing cucumbers in an open garden
In an open area, cucumbers actively grow at high temperatures, and the stems and root system - at moderate temperatures.
So it will be better if the night and day temperatures do not differ much, no more than 7 ° C.
Suitable temperature for nightly development of vegetables
For seed germination, + 10-12 ° C is necessary, and foliage and cucumbers appear at + 16 ° C. If the temperature rises to + 25 ° C during seed germination, the seeds will germinate faster, and the seedlings will hatch six days after sowing. Pay special attention to the decrease, at temperatures below +10 ° C the seedlings will turn yellow and disappear.
The soil temperature at night should be about + 16-18 ° C. Seed material will germinate faster if the soil temperature is higher than the air temperature.
Minimum and maximum temperatures
Cucumbers grow well at temperatures no higher than + 35 ° C. At higher plants, the ovaries dry up and crumble, a spider mite can be seen on the vines, and the pollen will be sterile.
Irrigate the area during abnormal heat. And during sprinkling, the soil cools and the plant overheats less.
To maintain a comfortable environment, I recommend:
- Plant the crop next to buildings on the leeward side so that sunlight enters the area.
- Place the trellis for cucumbers in rows of tall plants.
During such a neighborhood, part of the moisture will be absorbed by the backstage plants. So take the responsibility for watering your cucumbers.
What to do at a lower temperature
There are several methods that will help save plantings from prolonged frost.
Manure bed
Build a manure bed two weeks before sowing the seed. Fold the manure into a tall bed and sprinkle with water. The film will accelerate the decay of manure.
When steam begins to emanate from the ridge, it will be ready in two days. It will be possible to start planting seeds. The soil layer must be at least 30 cm. If there is a threat of frost, use a covering material.
Warm bed
Biofuels can be:
- foliage;
- food waste;
- branches;
- tops from plants.
Seedlings, placed on an inorganic pillow and covered with oilcloth, will withstand frost. This method is well suited for a rainy summer, since organic matter, when overheated, releases heat for the development of fruits.
Arcuate structure and covering material
Installing arcs and stretching the covering material in the form of a white spunbond will save cucumbers from the spring cold snap.
If the cucumber leaves are damaged by frost, you can use "Epin", which will help restore the culture's immunity. You can also use drugs:
- "Zircon";
- "Narcissus";
- "Amulet".
Fertilizers
If the leaves have lightened and the development of the ovaries is delayed, feed the cucumbers with diluted carbamide or urea.
Prepare a solution before processing itself, 1 tbsp. l. substances / 10 l of liquid. Carry out the procedure in any weather.
Traditional methods
If there is no material at hand, use grass or twigs for cover, covering the cucumbers with them.
Shelter made of roofing material is also suitable; it is installed at night. Boric acid will also save from freezing. Dissolve five grams of powder in a bucket of hot water. Spray in the evening. Such a procedure saves crops from the cold and makes them resistant to diseases such as:
- root rot;
- bacteriosis;
- powdery mildew.
