Is the weather important?

In warm southern regions, where the sun is hotter and more frequent, and it rains only occasionally, additional watering of the cucumber bed should be taken more seriously. The water evaporates faster and the soil hardens. In areas with an average and colder climate, when watering vegetables, you need to focus on long-term forecasts. Cucumbers do not tolerate moisture stagnation: their roots rot, fungal diseases appear.

What to water with?

I recommend watering cucumber plants with liquid at room temperature. Place special containers in your summer cottages and fill them. Over time, the water in the barrels will settle, and all the heavy components will precipitate. Monitor moisture temperature. Watering with cold liquid can provoke a disease of the bushes and the death of all young ovaries.

Greenhouses and open ground

Please note that cucumbers in greenhouses are in less favorable conditions in terms of moisture intake. In the open field, plants can be additionally moistened by precipitation. Therefore, pay more attention and care to greenhouse cucumbers.

How and when to carry out the procedure

Choose morning or evening watering time. Keep in mind that water that gets on the delicate leaves can cause burns under the scorching summer sun. Therefore, follow important rules:

  • you need to water the cucumbers at the root, with a thin stream of water;
  • choose the time so that moisture on the foliage has time to dry before the hot midday sun;
  • do not use hoses or other devices where fluid escapes under pressure.

Watering scheme for cucumber beds

Greenhouse plants

At the very beginning, after planting vegetable seedlings in the ground, it is necessary to moisten the sprouts 2 times a week. When ovaries form, reduce watering to once every 5 days. And during the period of fruit ripening, on the contrary, cucumbers are watered more often and more abundantly: 3 times a week. From the beginning of August, vines can be watered once every 4-5 days.

Bushes in the open field

If you are planting cucumbers in the soil, then the irrigation scheme is no different from greenhouse plants. However, in the case of heavy rains, it is not necessary to additionally moisten the vegetables, provided that enough precipitation falls for full watering of the garden. With the arrival of cyclones, when it rains without stopping for several days or longer, watering cucumbers should be stopped. Otherwise, the bed will turn into a swamp, and you risk losing your crop.

What can be combined with watering

When carrying out the feeding procedure, to increase its effectiveness, the plants should be shed abundantly with water. It doesn't matter if you use granular fertilizers or prepare special solutions. Therefore, watering can be combined with fertilizing cucumber plants. When carrying out foliar dressing, also use compounds that protect the bushes from pests and diseases. Irrigate foliage in cloudy, calm weather so as not to harm the delicate greenery.

Water is a valuable source of nutrition for horticultural crops. Lack of it leads to deformation and pulling cucumbers, the fruits become bitter. However, an excess of liquid can significantly harm the plant. Moisten your cucumbers properly. And these tips will help you with this.
