People cook and peel the cobs in different ways: some process fresh corn, and some boil it to begin with. Let's consider both options.
Boiled corn is soft in grains and promises a fairly easy peeling. However, it is in this softness that the trick is hidden - with a strong impact, they break and smeared, since the skin after heat exposure becomes very fragile and almost does not keeps the shape of the grain. As a result, you run the risk of not getting a crumbly delicacy, but corn puree.
With a boiled ear, I usually proceed as follows:
- I cut the vegetable into 2-3 parts;
- with a wooden spatula or the back of a knife, I separate the first row of seeds at the base;
- I process further rows in the same way, focusing the pressure as close to the bottom of the grain as possible.
Fresh corn is much more robust, with a snug fit. Cleaning it requires much more effort and time than boiled one. However, the general principle does not depend on the type and availability of processing - it is necessary to carefully separate one row of grains, all subsequent ones will yield to separation faster and easier. Note that the central part of a fresh cob is very hard, it will be extremely difficult to cut it.
Much easier and faster recovery of grains will provide the use of additional tools. They are most often used to work with raw vegetables. With a boiled soft ear, you must be very careful not to crush the seeds. I will tell you about those devices that I have ever used myself.
Plowing machine
Externally, the tool resembles a ring with an inner sharp edge. A step-by-step instruction for its action looks like this:
- remove the leaves;
- cut off exactly both edges of the cob;
- put the corn upright;
- fix the cultivator at the upper end;
- with an effort, begin to move the device downward, cutting off the grains with blades;
- collect the "harvest", throw out the excess garbage.
On the basis of this hand tool, models of automatic and semi-automatic cultivators were created. Most often they are used in small and large industries, however, you can also choose a convenient type of this technique for the home. It will come in handy if you are very fond of corn and often eat it in the form of cobs.
Knife
This method does not require the purchase of a special device, as there are knives in every home. It is somewhat more difficult and more dangerous, but with sufficient skill it promises quick peeling. For work, it is better to take a wide, strong base, rigid blade.
They just need to cut the kernels close to the stump attachment. The method injures the seeds, and I personally use it in the event that I then subject the seeds to further grinding.
If it is important to maintain integrity, then you need to act with a blunt edge of a knife. It literally squeezes out every row of grains.
Drill
The method is unusual, but effective. Especially when there are no other devices, and there are many vegetables to be peeled. I will briefly describe the scheme of actions:
- in a pipe segment with a diameter of 15-18 cm and a length of 40-50 cm from one edge (retreating 5-7 cm) eight 6-cm self-tapping screws with a sharp end are screwed in a circle;
- the ear should enter the pipe easily enough, but with contact;
- the segment itself is directed into a container for collecting grains, a self-tapping screw is twisted into the cob, the head of which is fixed in the socket of the drill;
- the drill is turned on at medium speed and the corn is lowered into the pipe, where the fixed self-tapping screws remove the grains.
To simplify cleaning, I advise you to boil the cobs with boiling water - this will soften the grains and facilitate their extraction.
