Exactly one year ago we celebrated a housewarming and completed our third turnkey renovation in our life. That's how many times we moved from place to place :-)
This time I already understood that there would be no wallpaper in the house. The fact is that ordinary and familiar to everyone, no matter how much you take care of them, they still acquire a "tired" look, even if not in three years, but in five or six years for sure. Just what are children's "fun" - to draw on the walls and touch them with greasy hands. And on the corners and near the switches, and without this, after a while, dark specks will certainly form ...
You might say you can buy washable wallpaper! I will not argue, even if the wallpaper is washable, but still they have one big drawback... In the last apartment where we lived, the workers carelessly brought the bed into the bedroom and for four years we lived with a long strip of wallpaper scratched to the wall. And it was impossible to fix it, the repair of such scratches will always be noticeable... except to re-glue a piece of wallpaper, but we have not found any on sale.
After what happened, we strive to select unpretentious and wear-resistant finishing materials, moreover, suitable for quick partial restoration. In general, with a long life time, until we make another major overhaul.
Today, I will tell you about three cool wall decoration methods that I have used in my home.
1. Brick walls
It could have been done much cheaper, but as stupid as it may sound, we deliberately made the internal partitions out of brick because we knew that it would remain in the interior. It only remained to paint it white.
There is no need to plaster anything, the brick is painted as it should be by the workers... Before painting, I walked along the walls with a metal brush to remove any excess cement slurry.
Such a wall is restored in a matter of minutes, it is enough to take any white paint and paint the damaged section of the wall. Oh, how many times I've drilled holes in the wrong places. The holes are covered with plaster and painted over in white - you will never find where the hole was!!! :-)

2. Liquid wallpaper
We applied liquid wallpaper in the children's rooms and in one of the bathrooms.
Believe me, this is an incredibly cool, easy to repair and practical option! The dry consistency is diluted in water and is saturated with moisture all night.
After 12 hours it can be smeared on the wall! We managed to do it the first time without any experience! Therefore, do not doubt your abilities ...
Liquid wallpaper also recovers quickly... In any case, after work, you will have residues of dry material, do not throw them away, so they can come in handy. We also saturate them with water and apply to any damaged area: you can clean off the old layer, or you can leave it. In general, you need to look at the place!
3. Mat (canvas for painting)
This material is used to finish 50% of the walls in the house.
In common people this type of decoration is called "paintable wallpaper". It is an incredibly comfortable material that is easy to clean and repainted in a very short time. For example, the walls of our house can be repainted in a couple of days in a completely new color.
Especially, this material is practical in the hallway. It is here that children touch the walls with dirty hands when entering the house. A good interior paint without loss of quality can stand for 10 years in a can, so it will not be difficult to touch up external corners and places around the switches in a year. It will be simply impossible to do this with wallpaper, but here the walls will be as good as new!
When gluing matting, however, as well as when working with wallpaper, the main thing is that there are no bubbles ...
... otherwise we somehow took three bubbles, and there was no time for gluing... (Kidding!)
I think that these three options for wall decoration are much more practical than wallpaper, and even if some of them, such as liquid wallpaper, are more expensive, but it's worth it! I did it and forgot it, and when necessary - I restored it!
