Gardeners have been growing peaches for a long time. The pulp of this juicy fruit was enjoyed by both children and adults. You just need to choose the right peach variety and know the features of its cultivation.
An excellent option for planting in any region of Russia is Kiev early.
It gives a good and early harvest of tasty fruits that can be eaten fresh and make wonderful preparations for the winter for tea.
Kiev early
The variety is well adapted to the climate of the average statistical region of Russia. Even if the winter is frosty, the tree will quickly recover from the cold season. The crown of a three-meter tree is round and not particularly dense. It is very convenient to harvest from a short tree. Peach blooms for two weeks. Three months pass from the beginning of flowering to ripening of the fruit.
Landing features
Gardeners find peach trees quite moody. But the Kiev variety does not require soil fertility and is ready to please with a bountiful harvest of wonderful fruits.
Selection of seedlings
Before you buy seedlings, you need to carefully examine them. They should be free of any damage and lateral branches. Healthy seedlings form roots about 30 cm long. Choose a trunk with 5 branches so that there are no dry shoots on it.
Dates and place of landing
The peach tree is well accepted on light soils; swampy soil does not allow it to develop.
The best place to land is in a sunny area well protected from the north wind.
The Kiev variety blooms on the southern side of the site. Young trees need to be protected from severe frosts, so they are planted mainly in the spring. The soil has been prepared for them since the fall.
Site preparation
The site must be plowed to a great depth. After that, remove all weeds and moisten the soil. I apply fertilizers from ash, humus, superphosphate and potassium chloride. After the soil is saturated with useful substances, I dig holes. At the bottom of each depression I put gravel and small particles of brick. I get a layer of 10 cm.
Landing
I want to share my experience of how I plant trees:
- I drive a small peg in the center of the hole.
- At the bottom of the hole I make an earthen mound, put a seedling on it and spread the roots.
- I fall asleep with earth and tamp it.
- I fasten the trunk with twine to the peg.
- I pour 3 buckets of water under each planting and mulch with sawdust and peat. I make a layer of mulch about 10 cm.
It is not necessary to bury the tree very deeply in the ground in order to prevent the necrosis of the lower part of the bark of the trunk.
Care
In order for a peach tree to produce a high-quality crop, proper care is necessary.
Pruning
Pruning is needed for the peach to form the crown. I remove dry branches and those that are affected by diseases. I thin out the crown so that light and air penetrate deep into it. I cut the cut with a sharp knife. Do not leave hemp, treat the cuts with garden pitch. Many people cook it on their own, but I buy it ready-made in specialized stores.
Watering
A peach needs regular watering and moist soil. But it is not necessary to flood the tree too much in order to prevent rotting of the root system. I water it once every 10 days, pouring out 4 buckets of water. Watering is very important during the fruiting period.
Top dressing
Fertilizers are needed for the healthy development of the tree and provide it with strong immunity.
Shelter for the winter
I begin to prepare the tree for wintering when there are few leaves on it.
- I water the tree-trunk circle and bring in sawdust and humus. I make a layer of 10 cm.
- The trunk and upper branches are whitewashed with a solution of lime, clay and manure. This will scare away rodents.
- I warm the tree trunk with spruce branches.
Collection and storage of fruits
Kiev early variety of peach bears fruit already 3 years after planting. The harvest is quite high, on average 35-50 kilograms of peaches are harvested from one plant. The fruit has a rich yellow color and juicy flesh. The skin of the fruit is dense, so they are easily transported over long distances. Peaches are stored only in a dry container, the fruits are not washed.
Shelf life is no more than a week.
The aromatic peach fruits of the Kievsky early variety can be consumed fresh, as well as for the manufacture of desserts, jams and compotes.
