RSH-12 " Elephant Boy": why so little is known about the most powerful revolver on the planet

Domestic weapons have been successfully holding the title of high-quality and effective for many years. That's just not all the brainchildren of Russian industries are known to the townsfolk, even if they are champions in certain positions. It was this fate that befell the model of the Tula masters RSH-12, also known as the "Elephant Boy": it is considered the most powerful revolver on the planet, that's just the secret status of this weapon does not allow to have a lot of data about it, and many do not know about it at all existence.

RSH-12, which stands for assault revolver, was developed in the early 2000s by specialists from the branch of the Tula Design Bureau of Instrument Engineering. Academician A.G. Shipunov (KPB) - Central Design and Research Bureau of Sports and Hunting Weapons. Then they designed a large-caliber revolver for 12.7 mm caliber cartridges. That's just for twenty years of information about him very little is known.

So, on the Internet you can find only a few of his images and computer models that demonstrate his unusual, somewhat futuristic design. At the same time, it is known that the RSH-12 is made according to the classical scheme of a revolver, has a reinforced barrel casing, and is also equipped with holes for ventilation. In addition, the barrel is adapted to mount a laser designator, optical sight, flashlight or other necessary additional equipment. True, it is not completely clear exactly how the drum is replaced.

It is also known what ammunition can be loaded with a revolver, nicknamed the "Elephant Boy": we are talking about five types of cartridges for a large-caliber rifle: PS-12A; PD-12, with two bullets in one sleeve; PS-12, capable of penetrating light body armor; armor-piercing PS-12B, which can destroy lightly armored vehicles; and even the STs-130, which was originally conceived as a cartridge for the Exhaust sniper rifle.

Given the secrecy of the development, there is nothing surprising in the fact that it is almost impossible to find data on how the RSh-12 behaves in combat. However, experts believe that the weapon is effective during the assault on buildings and when used in confined spaces. So, his bullets do not ricochet off the walls, and it is also easy to knock out the door lock with a shot from a revolver. Moreover, there is an opinion that they can shoot an enemy or a terrorist right through the wall. And the weapon itself is heavy enough to cause serious injury to the enemy after the cartridges run out.

In any case, so far all the technical capabilities of the "Elephant Boy" are not known for certain, because information about who was put into service with the RSh-12 is also not disclosed. Among the assumptions regarding this issue, versions most often emerge that the FSB and GRU special forces were armed with a revolver, because the weapon is highly specialized and shoots with rare cartridges. Therefore, most branches of the Russian army are unlikely to receive it.
