What are peat tablets

This tool is based on compressed peat or a mixture of peat and humus. This is the optimal nutrient medium for any crop.

I use the ones that also include:

  • coconut fibre. It improves the conductivity of moisture and air.
  • Various micro and macro elements that allow you to grow healthy plants.
  • growth stimulants. Seedlings grow much faster without any harm to them.

The use of such tablets reliably protects seedlings from diseases and pests at the initial stage of their growth.

Some of them are additionally strengthened with a non-woven material that prevents the spread of peat, while allowing moisture to pass through.

Rules for sowing in peat tablets

In specialized stores, I recommend paying attention to those whose size is from 25 to 85 mm. These are the optimal dimensions for planting various crops - from petunias, arugula, strawberries to peppers and eggplants.

Seed preparation

Before sowing, I will certainly prepare the planting material.

I act like this:

  1. I disinfect in a solution of potassium permanganate, soaking for 30 minutes, then slightly drying.
  2. I process in a growth stimulator, leaving it in it for 20 minutes.
  3. I germinate, leaving on a damp cloth in a warm place (22-25 ° C) for 10-14 days. It is important to keep the napkin constantly moist.

I start sowing as soon as sprouts appear.

Preparation of tablets

For planting, I use a special plastic container with cells for tablets. I make sure that there are holes for draining water, I place the container in the pan.

I fill it with warm water so as not to blur the top layer. I leave it for 15-20 minutes.

Sowing

Next, I start planting. If the planting material is small, for example, like greens (parsley, lettuce, arugula, etc.), I recommend placing several pieces at once in one place.

I sprinkle a small layer of soil on top.

For larger ones, I slightly increase the indentation in the center. The procedure is especially important for germinated seeds. I also sprinkle them with disinfected soil.

Next, I close the container with a special plastic lid. In its absence, you can use a simple plastic bag. This creates the greenhouse effect.

I place the container in a warm place. I constantly maintain humidity. Every day I air for 5 minutes. As soon as shoots appear, I remove the cover.

Aftercare Rules

For seedlings, I try to keep the temperature within 12-15 ° C during the day and 10-12 ° C at night. Only after 14 days I raise the indicator to 22 ° C. This is an important condition that allows the seedlings not to stretch.

I want to draw your attention to the fact that peat tablets dry out quickly, so it is important to keep them constantly moist.

In addition, after the appearance of the first true leaf, I feed the seedlings with complex formulations. I put them in every 10 days.

I transplant into open ground in tablets that feed the plants for the first time.

In conclusion, I want to say that peat tablets are a real find for gardeners. They are easy to use, they contain the optimal composition of nutrients for seeds, and allow you not to injure the root system when transplanting to a permanent place.
