As a rule, picking and transplanting tomato seedlings is carried out on favorable days for this. They are determined according to the indicators of the lunar calendar and according to the calculations of the time of full maturation. This takes into account many additional indicators:
- temperature regime;
- general weather conditions;
- the possibility of severe frosts, etc.
In order to have time to do everything in due time, I advise you to start preparing the things necessary for sowing - seeds, soil and containers - in early March.
Active planting of tomatoes can be carried out with the complete disappearance of the snow cover. In the southern regions, with a warm short winter and the absence of frosts, transplanting into greenhouses can be started as early as the end of March. April is much more familiar for mid-latitudes, but the northern regions will have to wait until early May and plant tomatoes only in greenhouses. I usually check the depth of the heated soil layer before a seedling move to determine how comfortable and warm the roots will grow. There is no need to be afraid of cool air - by the time of transplantation, tomato sprouts will be strong and strong enough to start growing in open ground.
All these factors and time intervals help determine weather reports and a regular calendar. But gardeners usually calculate the ideal days for transplanting each particular crop according to the lunar calendar. The right day guarantees good growth, a minimum amount of difficulties and a bountiful final harvest. It is believed that these indicators are significantly influenced by the Moon.
If you decide to rely on the data of the lunar calendar, then I will immediately note that from the moment of picking up to the final landing on the beds should take at least 20-25 days, since the planted shoots need time to strengthen and grow the root systems. At the same time, a week before the separation, the tomatoes stop watering - they are only sprayed - and the healthy state of the stem and leaves must be monitored.
Even if a good greenhouse becomes the main location of the tomatoes, I recommend making sure that the soil in the beds is completely warm before transplanting. Tomatoes do not tolerate cold in any form - even they need to be watered only with warm water.
A good indicator is considered to be a temperature at a depth of 10 cm of at least 12 ° C. It is also best to carry out the entire process on an overcast day, as direct sunlight can harm the transplanted sprouts.
Gardeners are largely guided by the data of the lunar calendar. In good copies, in addition to the exact dates of agrotechnical processes, useful tips and recommendations regarding the care of vegetables are indicated. This can be extremely helpful for beginner gardeners.

- 23 is a good time for transplanting;
- 29 - a good period for watering;
- 30 - fertilizer tomatoes.
In May, good days for moving tomatoes will be the 9th and 11th.
In parallel with the ongoing procedures, seedlings should be hardened, alternating ventilation and strengthening in direct sunlight.
