Rose breeding

There are several ways to become the owner of a new rose bush:

  • by sowing seeds;
  • with the help of layering;
  • through cuttings.

The latter option is most favorable for home use, as it allows you to:

  • get a strong root system and a strong plant;
  • preserve all species and varietal qualities of the bush.

planting material

For a donor when cutting, it is worth choosing a healthy, strong, stiff pink shoot of an adult flower. Do not take too thick or, conversely, thin bush. The cutting should be from the central part of the shoot, 20-30 cm long, with 3-4 buds. The lower part is cut obliquely under the kidney, and the upper one above the last kidney. Remove the bottom leaves. Flowers from store bouquets may be suitable as a material if they are fresh and without signs of wilting or damage.

Timing of cuttings

I prefer to propagate roses from May to July. In this case, you will have time to plant a rooted seedling in the ground, and he, in turn, will be able to survive the coming cold. Roses can also be propagated from cuttings in the fall. In this case, the whole process of rooting the flower will have to go through on your windowsills, and only with the onset of stable heat can the plant be planted in the ground.

How to root cuttings

There are several ways to get the cherished roots from a rose bush:

  • keeping in water

For this method, the shoot is placed in water by 2-3 cm, the liquid changes regularly. After 20-30 days, you should expect the first roots.

  • planting in the ground

The seedling treated with a growth stimulator is placed in a moist prepared substrate, covered with a glass container on top. After the appearance of the first sprouts, the greenhouse is removed.

  • donor use (potatoes)

Treat a healthy tuber with potassium permanganate and cut lengthwise, making a hole in one of the halves. A bush treated with a root stimulator is inserted into the hole, and the entire structure is placed in a moist substrate.

  • package landing

The most economical way, not even requiring a container. A cutting is placed in the wet soil poured into the bag, the bag itself must be tied and hung next to the window.

First leaves

Each of the methods involves the creation of a greenhouse effect for the rooting of plants. After the appearance of the roots and the first leaves, the film or glass must be removed to avoid soil rotting. Do not place young roses in direct sunlight. It is advisable to choose diffused lighting for shoots.

What's next

If you cut a rose in the spring and summer, then soon you can transfer the seedling to open ground. For winter experiments, grow the plant at home. Do not forget about regular watering and top dressing of the flower. In late May - early June, you can plant a stronger flower in your area.

I have given only a few ways to propagate roses by cuttings. In order for the young plant to take root in your flower garden in the future, make every effort and surround the flower with the necessary care.
