Wonderful hyacinths in the spring bloom among the first in the summer cottage. I like to watch how the little flowers open their petals in turn, turning the plant into one blooming little bouquet. Hyacinth grows excellently and blooms at home in a pot.
How to care for hyacinth after flowering in a pot?
By organizing the right care, you can achieve repeated flowering of hyacinth in a pot. What do I do after the plant blooms:
- I cut off the flower stalks before the formation of the seed box. This is important as it will draw strength from the plant and weaken it.
- I wait for the greens to dry, and then I cut it off.
- For 3-4 weeks I continue to water and feed the bulb with a complex of fertilizers created specifically for hyacinths.
- After this period, I stop feeding, and gradually reduce watering to nothing.
What to do with the bulb after flowering
After the soil has completely dried, I carefully remove the onion from the pot and put it to dry in a cool, dark place. I clean the bulb after drying from the remaining soil, remove excess scales, root processes. I store the onion in a cool place in the dark until planting.
How to care for hyacinth after flowering in the open field
Hyacinth bulbs I dig out of the soil every year.
After removing from the ground, I inspect the bulbs to determine if they are healthy, for damage and signs of damage by pests. I process healthy bulbs with potassium permanganate.
Watering and fertilizing
After the hyacinth blooms, I do this:
- I cut off all the arrows before the seed box is formed so that it does not draw juices;
- waiting for the leaves to dry.
The period of the bulb in the ground after that is up to three months, during which I water and fertilize it. I fertilize every two weeks, using complex fertilizer for hyacinths.
Is it possible to leave the bulb in the ground
After complete yellowing and falling off of the above-ground part of the plant, I dig out the bulbs and send them to rest. I plant again in October.
If this rule is violated, that is, if you do not dig up the bulbs, next year the flowering will be inferior: the peduncle is short, the inflorescences are deformed.
Planting hyacinths
Planting of this crop is carried out within the temperature regime from +7 to +14 degrees.
I prepare a plot for planting flowers in 2-3 weeks:
- dig up the soil;
- I add nutrients (ash, potassium, superphosphate);
- I deoxidize the soil, if necessary, by adding lime;
- I make grooves, filling them with river sand.
After preparing the beds, I lay out the onions in grooves at a distance of 8-10 cm and fall asleep with earth. I water the bed with warm settled water. I mulch with a layer of sawdust. Closer to winter in cold regions, plantings should be insulated with spruce branches.
bulb storage
After harvesting the bulbs, I clean them from the ground and dry them well in a dark, dry place with good ventilation. After drying, I put it in a cardboard box or a wooden box and store it indoors. If the air humidity is low, the bulbs may dry out and will no longer be suitable for planting.
Bulbs that have faded in their summer cottage can be used for forcing. For this I take adult material. I have been growing children for several years on the site.
