When growing beautifully flowering hydrangeas, I always provide these luxurious shrubs with the necessary types of fertilizers when organizing care. I include kefir in their list.

The benefits of kefir for hydrangea

An ornamental flowering shrub responds excellently to fermented milk products. If possible, I replace kefir with yogurt, fermented baked milk or whey.

The benefit is explained by the presence in the structural formula of lactic acid bacteria and amino acids important for the development of plants. Nutrient basic compounds are present: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium. There are many microelements (for example, calcium, iron, iodine, sodium), vitamins.

When used correctly, hydrangea activates growth processes. She pleases with more lush luxurious flowering. I mainly use fermented milk products for root feeding. If irrigation is required, I select a sprayer with sufficiently large openings.

The presence of lactic acid for hydrangea is only beneficial. I take into account that many cultures react negatively to such a component, so I try to protect them from getting into kefir beds.

Feeding rules

I use mainly kefir with an average (2.5%) fat content.

For application under shrubs, I dissolve kefir in settled water, maintaining a ratio of 1: 5. I try to pour the nutrient liquid directly under the plant. Drops that fall on the leaf plates are immediately wiped with a damp sponge.

For foliar irrigation, I prepare the solution with a lower concentration. The ratio of kefir and water is 1:10.

Practicing kefir top dressing, I follow a number of rules:

Feed preparation
Feed preparation
  • I use water that has settled in a barrel and slightly warmed under the sun;
  • after completing the feeding procedure, I practice watering hydrangeas with clean water;
  • I do not allow the formation of a hard soil crust, regularly carrying out shallow loosening;
  • to slow down evaporation, I lay mulch (coniferous litter, crushed dried peat, chopped straw);
  • when performing foliar top dressing with kefir solution, I irrigate simultaneously with the aerial part and mulch on the surface of the earth;
  • I choose morning or evening hours with dry calm weather for feeding.

The frequency of kefir feeding is 20 days. I practice the last procedure in mid-August.

I can note that kefir, as an affordable fertilizer for hydrangeas, contributes to the formation of numerous lush inflorescences. The flowering period is extended. Shrubs receive protection from dangerous infections. If you include kefir in the list of nutritional compositions when growing gorgeous hydrangeas, please tell us about it in the comments.
