plant description

Zamioculcas belongs to the Aroid family, native to tropical Africa.

The leaves are complex-pinnate, hard, glossy. Leaf plates consist of individual "feathers".

The root system is powerful, consisting of strong tubers, from which thick worm-like roots extend. Blooms rarely.

Sequential instructions for breeding

The culture can be propagated using leaves or parts of it - stem cuttings, tubers. Each of the methods has its advantages and disadvantages, which should first be evaluated before the procedure.

cuttings

The best time to take cuttings is considered to be late spring or June.

The plant from which planting material will be taken must be healthy, at least 5 years old.

Sequencing:

  1. Cut off the leaf plates, divide with a knife into cuttings. Let them dry for 2-3 hours.
  2. In a container, put drainage (1/3 of the volume), moistened sand, perlite, vermiculite. You can also use special soil. An alternative is rooting in a settled liquid with added tablets of activated charcoal, potassium permanganate.
  3. Pour a powdered biostimulator to the base of the petiole. Plant in the soil, compact the substrate.
  4. Heat the plantings from below, create a temperature not lower than +22 ° C. If necessary, lightly moisten the soil by applying a root stimulant solution. Perform the first irrigation no earlier than 3-4 days after planting.
  5. Tubers will form after about 55-60 days. Then it will be possible to place the plant in a permanent place and take care of it as an adult culture.
  6. The first leaves usually appear no earlier than six months later. If they are curled and covered with a reddish film on top, this is normal.

leaf rooting

There is one drawback in this method - the growth of a young plant is too slow. "Feathers" should be strong, without damage.

  1. Cut off the leaves, let dry.
  2. Sprinkle the bottom with crushed activated charcoal.
  3. Place the leaves in a moistened substrate of sand and fine peat (1: 1). Deepening into the soil should be about a third.
  4. Cover the containers, keep them at a temperature not lower than +22 °C. Ventilate, ventilate.
  5. After 2-3 months, the leaves will dry out. However, small bulbs will form.
  6. After about six months, as soon as the first leaf appears, transplant the culture into pots with soil. Do not forget to put drainage at the bottom.

Breeding stems and branches

Manipulation is similar to rooting "feathers" with one small difference. Parts of the stems are simply laid out on the substrate, and not arranged in an upright position. Pre-cut the skin with a blade in several places. Cover the cuts with soil.

Propagation by division of tubers

During plant transplantation, individual tubers can be divided. Inflicted "wounds" immediately process.

  1. Let the planting material dry for a day.
  2. Put drainage in pots, then a mixture of soddy soil, sand, leafy soil and peat with the addition of humus.
  3. Bury the tubers into the substrate by about 5 cm. Carry out care as an adult crop, refusing top dressing, and use spraying instead of watering. Apply the first fertilizer after 30-40 days.
  4. After a year, transplant the plant into soil for adult crops.

Now you know how to propagate zamiokulkas at home. I hope that you will use the recommendations for plant breeding, and it will decorate the interior of your home.
