Everyone who has seen more than one submarine should have paid attention to the fact that in some cases window openings can be seen at its “turret”, towering above the hull. Why are they needed, and even at a depth?
The "turret" above the hull of the submarine is called the marine term - cabin. In most surface ships, the cabin is the place on the deck from which the ship is steered. In the case of submarines, the cabin, presented as a superstructure above the hull, is not used to control the submarine. It performs other functions.
Firstly, the cabin of the submarine is needed for observation. Secondly, there is a lock leading inside the submarine. A variety of equipment is also located in the waterproof part of the cabin: antennas, communication systems, mast-lifting devices, a periscope, as well as some other means of observation. But what about the mysterious things that look like portholes?

By no means "reminiscent"! These are the cabin windows, which (what a surprise) are needed in order to be able to observe. Under water, the windows of the windows do not burst for the simple reason that they are located in the flooded part of the cabin. When the submarine sinks, water fills the glass from both sides, the pressure equalizes and nothing bad happens to them. Of course, crew members can be in the flooded part of the cabin only when the submarine is on the surface of the water.
In continuation of the topic, read about "Prince Vladimir": which is a submarine with a height of 5-storey building.
