A well-known case: in the Soviet Union they did nothing but galoshes. Well, submarines were made a little more in the country of victorious socialism. One of these was the submarine K-222, the record for speed in a submerged position has not been broken so far. The 222nd was and remains the only submarine capable of overtaking a torpedo.
In 1959, the Council of Ministers of the USSR issued a new order on the start of the creation of the newest high-speed submarine as part of carrying out experimental design and research work in the field of designing submarines and energy installations. The task was assigned to TsKB-16, also known as the Malachite SPMBM. A project was laid for a super-high-speed submarine under project 661 Anchar. The Soviet authorities forfeited so much money for the project that the designers jokingly called the future submarine "Golden Fish".
The task before the design team was not trivial. Engineers were forbidden to use already developed and used technologies. The new submarine was positioned as a means of counteracting the aircraft carrier groups of the most likely enemy. In particular, the submarine had to be able to destroy the aircraft carriers themselves. However, to do this, they first had to catch up.

The main highlight of the K-222 was its innovative two-hull design. A lightweight outer hull was used to create the correct hydrodynamic shape. A rugged figure-eight hull was installed in front of the submarine for mounting the weapon systems of the submarine. The K-222 was armed with cruise missiles with a solid-propellant engine PRK "Amethyst". Thus, the submarine became not only the fastest submarine in the world, but also the first submarine capable of launching missiles from a submerged position.
The construction of K-222 began in 1962 at the Sevmash enterprise. The submarine was launched in 1968, and the first high-speed tests took place in 1969. During the tests, the main problem of the innovative design was also discovered. At high speed, the K-222 created powerful underwater turbulence, which deprived it of stealth and caused terrible discomfort to the crew due to the noise, the volume of which could reach 100 decimal places. At the same time, the speed of movement under water could reach 82 km / h or 44 knots. The submarine served until 2008, until it was disposed of. However, the work of Soviet designers was not useless. Thanks to the project 661 "Anchar", a series of submarines of the project 670 "Skat" appeared - aircraft carrier killers.
