In the armies of the former Soviet republics, as well as in the army of the former Soviet Union, soldiers engaged in an extremely strange business for a civilian - they sewed a white collar to collar. What was it for? Was this procedure another kind of army absurdity in the spirit of round - wear, square - roll?
Sewing a collar to the collar of a soldier's clothing, of course, has a direct practical meaning, which in a nutshell can be described as personal hygiene. It should also be noted right away that today collars are sewn to the uniform of far from all the armies of the former Soviet republics. Those countries that managed to switch to a fundamentally new type of soldier's and officer's uniform are no longer doing this. For example, in Russia, collars have not been sewn for several years, after the introduction of an all-weather set of field uniforms in the troops of the VKPO.
Before the advent of modern military uniforms, white collars were sewn on for almost the entire 20th century. In the Soviet Union, the corresponding "fashion" was introduced into the troops by order of the top leadership in 1935. For many decades after that, sewing on the collar became a real soldier's "ritual" in the evenings.

It was necessary (and in some places still is today) to sew on a collar made of 100% cotton fabric in order to ensure the proper level of neck hygiene. Anyone who has worn a light-coloured shirt with a collar in their life knows what this is about. No matter how much my neck is, it still remains dirty. In the case of the soldiers, the situation was further complicated by the fact that, unlike some clerks, they constantly sweat throughout the day. As a result, even after the bath, by the end of the day, a white collar can become a black collar.
If a dirty collar is not changed, then sooner or later it will rub your neck, causing acne. If you do not sew on the collar in principle, then neck injury in military clothing with a collar will happen even faster.
