The electric current in the battery appears due to the course of a chemical reaction as a result of the interaction of the cathode (minus) with graphite (plus) using the anode connecting them. During the reaction, the gradual destruction of the cathode, one of the most important elements of the battery (body) design, occurs. When the current in the battery disappears, this means that the cathode in it is either completely destroyed, or almost destroyed and covered with a dense layer of oxide film, which interferes with the generation of electric current.
The main problem of any battery is that the chemical reaction that takes place inside is irreversible. During the work process, the battery is slowly destroyed from the inside and cannot be charged like a battery. However, the battery can be "shaken" by squeezing the last juices out of it. To do this, you need to somehow remove the oxide film that has already formed on the cathode. Most often, this can be done by heating, passing an electric current through the battery - trying to "charge" the battery like a battery. However, in reality, no new charge appears in the battery. Just due to the destruction of the oxide film, the chemical reaction will be able to proceed in the power source for some more short time.

Trying to "charge" the batteries is strongly discouraged, as any attempt or subsequent operation of a "shaken" battery can lead to the final physical destruction of the cathode. In other words, such a battery will simply leak! It should be recalled that the design of galvanic batteries contains substances potentially hazardous to human health. For example, batteries may contain mercury. For the same reason, it is recommended not to throw away batteries, but to try to recycle them using special bins.
