Before proceeding to the main topic of the article, I will tell the background. I have a friend who is a roofer. Not to say that we are friends, we just crossed paths several times at work. One day he called and happily announced that he had created a real masterpiece. And he invited me to admire this alleged masterpiece.
I did not have the conscience to refuse, so I graciously agreed. To be honest, what I saw "masterpiece" caused me only laughter. This is what I saw: the roof was covered with ondulin with almost no overlaps. In addition, “houses” flaunted on it (what it is, I will tell further), and the overlay was made very illiterately.
I told all this to my friend. To which he just brushed it off, saying that I did not understand anything about roofs. A year later, I remembered this incident and decided to see how the roof looks now.
The plank rafters sagged in the middle, their edges pulled up to the top. Looks very ridiculous. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of this "beauty".
Now let's get down to business. Why not build roofs?
Firstly, do not believe any smart people who claim that they know how to do it right. Everything is written in SP 17.13330.2017. Trust only official documents.
Ondulin and other materials are very soft. They do not fit crate with a large step. The maximum size of the gaps should not exceed 300 mm (taking into account a slope of 45 degrees). If the angle is less than 45 degrees, the crate must be of very high quality.
- I do not recommend using boards thinner than 30 mm. Along the edges of the roof, it is desirable to make 2 - 3 boards of a continuous crate.
- The optimal slope angles for the roof are also indicated in the joint venture. The overlap depends on the slope: the smaller the angle, the stronger the overlap.
- If we talk about metal tiles, then the situation is similar to ondulin. It is strictly forbidden to save on the crate!
- To make the roof last longer, use only high-quality stainless steel fasteners or with a good anti-corrosion coating.
Remember, I promised to tell you about the "houses"? So I call an illiterately made docking of rows. The overlaps on the roof should go in one direction, if they go in different directions, “houses” appear.
Why am I leading all this? Be sure to read the joint venture before you engage in the installation of the roof. Otherwise, you will have to spend time and money on rework later.
